Looking for a venue that allows self catering

Christina, on April 26, 2019 at 11:49 AM Posted in Ohio Planning 0 3
So we are planning on having members from both sides of the family bring special dishes that they want to share at our wedding (such as my family providing traditional Puerto Rican dishes) that we know a caterer can not reproduce the same way grandma can. Before any negativity floods in, understand that members of the family have VOLUNTEERED to make these dishes for us. They love to cook and love us enough that they have kindly offered their services without us pushing for it. I'm having a hard time finding a venue in northeast Ohio that will allow us to bring in our own food. Does anyone have any recommendations? We'd also like to stay no more than an hour away from the Cleveland area. Any advice would be awesome!

    Hi there Christina!

This is very sweet of your family to offer to make the dishes for your wedding.

When providing the food for an event yourself, it can be difficult to find a venue who are willing to accept this liability.

Have you looked in to venues such as local parks, community halls, public centres, etc.? Venues that don’t typically serve food or have their own caterers may be a good option as they may be more willing to let you cater yourselves.

The WeddingWire venue directory does not list community halls, however, it does list parks. You can check it out here - Cleveland Park Wedding Venues

How many guests will you be inviting to the wedding? Do you need a large venue?

Hello, we have a similar situation as we currently live in Charlotte NC but I'm from Cleveland Ohio. My wedding will be in Cleveland at the Masonic Lodge @13512 Kinsman rd in Cleveland. The coordinator (Mr Tuff) there has helped with everything and we get to bring in our own food. He also got hotel rooms 15 minutes away, the photographer, and the DJ and we're working on the car service. Think it over.

You can look into a local VFW hall! They rent for around $400 and I believe they give discounts if you know anyone that is a member. You can bring your own food and they have a kitchen (not sure if you would actually be able to cook huge meals but you can definitely warm up the food).
