Looking for Advice -- Postponed 18 April Wedding

Elizabeth, on March 23, 2020 at 7:32 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
Brides,

I am looking for advice. We unfortunately had to cancel our April 18th 2020 wedding due to COVID. The only Saturday date available this year was 25 July 2020. I fear we rescheduled too soon and its been hard to resign vendor contracts, inform guests of the way ahead, bc there are so many unknowns. How are others dealing with this? What are other late July Brides doing? Are you full steam ahead or postponing? How are you all dealing with the stress? I worry that even if COVID cases level out, society wont be ready for weddings. The 2nd and 3rd order effects will still be here. Some guests will be sick, fearful to travel, experiencing family losses, etc. So hard to plan a celebration during a horrible time in our country. Without a vaccine, COVID will still be here. Praying for the best and grateful for any advice from the group!

Our wedding is July 25th (the original date we picked). We aren't cancelling yet and remaining cautiously optimistic. All the vendors are picked and deposits are down, so we can't really slow down on anything. I have no idea what is going to happen, but my guess is we are going to get a lot more information in the coming weeks.

Our wedding is August 8th and we are getting nervous about it. I wouldn't reschedule for July 25h- then you will spend the next few months stressing about it. I know Thursdays/Sundays are not ideal but I think family/friends will all know you didn't purposely choose an inconvenient date (no offense to anyone who picks these days from the outset). Would you consider the fall?
I agree with what you said about people still being nervous to travel, etc. We have 50+ international guests invited and I imagine many will decline ours even if things improve and it's totally understandable.

Exactly what Jaime said. We're July 17 and we're still in wait and see mode for now, trying not to stress just yet. The plan at the moment is to reassess mid-end of April. Although I'm guessing my shower and bachelorette party will be changing, but i'd rather change those than an entire wedding. I keep hoping that if this is all over by the summer, people will want to get out of the house to celebrate, but only time will tell.

We just postponed our April 19th wedding to July 26! Hoping it will calm down by then, and If anything it will be a smaller wedding which is ok for us. (Most guests are out of state) . We have reached out to all our guests, and gotten nothing but positive feedback and support about our new date.

    Positive thoughts!!

Hi Elizabeth! I'm so sorry that you've already had to postpone once and are worried that you may have to reschedule again! Across the board it sounds like July couples are understandably anxious, but keeping their plans intact, just watching and waiting for now. Proactively reviewing vendor contracts and thinking about what plan C could look like might be helpful for personal peace of mind!

FYI - We've started gathering initial resources in our COVID-19 Wedding Support Central, and I've also seen a lot of July brides connecting in this discussion: July 2020 Weddings!
