Looking for funny ideas for maid of honor toast.

Alexia Copple, on May 25, 2016 at 3:02 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

I am writing my speech for my Maid of Honor Toast at my best friend's wedding in a couple of weeks and am stumped on something. I want to get others involved for a funny joke during my toast. I went to a wedding where the Best Man was giving his toast and asked that any men/ex-boyfriends who had a house key to the Bride's house please come return it. Right away, about 15 guys stood up, walked up front and laid a key in the basket provided. He then asked the same of any women/ex-girlfriends of the Groom. The only woman to come forward and return a key was the Beat Man's 93 year old Grandmother. All of the guests loved it and couldn't stop laughing. I'm wanting to incorporate something like this into my toast but am having a hard time coming up with ideas. Anyone have any ideas or stories from past receptions they could share?

I'd be worried about something like that not going over well or feeling forced. Do you have a funny family-friendly story to share that you can bring back to the theme of the love between the bride and groom or how perfect they are for each other?

I think that key story is hilarious, but not everyone can pull that off and have the room respond well. I'd avoid any mention of exes even if you're just joking because it has the potential to go over very badly. I always love hearing stories about hearing the bride's very first opinions after the first date, first kiss, beginning a relationship from the point of view of him/her telling you/the best friend. Or childhood stories about the bride, how you met at age 8, what she thought love was at age 11, etc.

Personally, my MOH knows some hilarious stories about me and FH but some are obviously not appropriate to tell in front of our parents and grandparents. If they are borderline I wouldn't even try it. Save the raunchy ones for the bachelorette party with girlfriends.

Omg that story is so funny! I went to a wedding once where the MOH made up her own words for the song "ice ice baby". It was really funny!

I think this is a 'know your crowd' kind of thing, because the last thing you want is to be insulting....I'm not a fan or mentioning ex's or anything raunchy at a reception speech. It puts the couple in the position of having to smile gamely and then finding you to kill you later.

I think the funniest thing I've ever seen was a MOH who walked up to the head table with a Tiffany shopping bag. She told the group she had kept her speech very short, and she was so honored to be asked.

Then she took a roll of white paper (I'd say 24" wide) and unfurled it over the dance floor (it was about 15 feet long and she had written scribbles all over it so it looked like the notes for her speech).

    It was hilarious.

That sounds funny but you have to know your crowd. I would keep it to jokes that are a bit obvious to the audience. For example, DH's brother made a toast and said something like "Amanda, now that you are married, my brother can spend his time with what he really loves....his golf clubs."
