First step is decide in a budget and draft a guest list. Any vendors you talk to are going to ask you how many guests you're expecting.

Definitely ask your family if they want to contribute, so you can get an accurate budget!

I’m getting married in March 2023. I would set a budget without your family’s help first. Maybe they’ll help but maybe they won’t. So set a budget you can do alone. Figure out what type of wedding you want. Beach wedding? A classic romantic wedding? Start a Pinterest board. Create an email address for your wedding so when you email vendors and venues it doesn’t get lost in the clutter.

Get yourself a planning binder or book, and start outlining a budget. And communicate with your FH! What do you each definitely need/want and the absolute ‘no’ items? Write those down and reference it nearly as often as your budget. Let the budget drive everything.

I noticed that vendors are booking fast as there are a backlog of weddings due to the pandemic. I recommend nailing down the big "must haves" such venue and photographer asap! I thought a year was plenty of time to plan, but it's been a challenge with vendors being all booked up. Never too early to start!

I would order the Knot wedding planner off of Amazon and use it as a guide. The budget will be the key first element as it will dictate which venues you can look at. Some start at $10K for rental, some you can get much cheaper. The good news is that if you set the budget now and one will cause you to go over slightly you have 2 years to save and make up the difference.

If I had 2 years, I'd pick up a side hustle for added cash. Also, I second the other poster, and not include your parents into your budget. You don't know their financial forecast, but you can certainly plan yours. Whoever adds to the funding has a say in decisions, and maybe you and your fiance should sort out your vision before all others. Best wishes.

We're getting married in Sept 2022, so a year and a half and I'm finding that a lot of photographers are already booked for that date. So I would definitely start nailing down some of the bigger items especially if there's a photographer or venue you MUST HAVE.

We postponed our wedding shortly after getting engaged last year so I also am having a 2 year engagement. For me and my FH, we found our venue and set our budget almost immediately. We waited to sign the venue contract until this year but had our top choices picked out before we decided to postpone. I also started a Pinterest board specific to our event, not just any old wedding pictures I liked (those are a separate thing for me). That helped us narrow our vision of the style and tone we want for our wedding. I was able to narrow down my veil style, wedding bands, shoes, general bouquet design and types of flowers, inspiration pictures for hair and makeup, and lots of details I am interested in including in the ceremony or reception.

Most importantly for me, I put a moratorium on wedding planning for a few months last year so I didn't burn out (I can get obsessive). This meant that when we hit the 1 year mark I was able to pick back up and fully commit to planning without being exhausted by it.

I bought my dress before we postponed but luckily I still love it more than a year later! It has been hard not to second guess that choice with so much time in-between purchasing it and the wedding. Just keep that in mind before you go dress shopping.

I would say make a budget see if either family will give you a hand with the budget.

Pick a day that means a lot to both of you (if you don’t have a date yet - I just saw 2023)
Then start looking to see what kind of venue you like. Look up the ones in the area. If you want a beach one or something I would go in person look talk to someone there owner/etc and see the costs of it. Believe me people book venues ahead of time. When you find the one that’s the one I would book it so since it so far in advance the day won’t be booked. Nothing hurts more than a day that you find a place and it’s booked.
Then after that look and get quotes from vendors use WeddingWire big help looking.
    Happy planning Smiley smile
