Looking for my tribe... small, non-traditional, small budget weddings.

I feel so out of place in most of these forums. I'm looking for my tribe to discuss planning ideas. I'm not so concerned about typical wedding things or what the majority considers the right way to do things. I feel like you know your own friends and family and my what is acceptable in your circle....
I feel so out of place in most of these forums. I'm looking for my tribe to discuss planning ideas. I'm not so concerned about typical wedding things or what the majority considers the right way to do things. I feel like you know your own friends and family and my what is acceptable in your circle. This is a second marriage. We're in our 40s. We're planning something small, outdoors, with Pagan elements... Less than 50 guests... extremely small budget.

Anyone in the same mindset and want to share ideas? Feel free to say hello!

No. We changed up everything. Dark blue, silver and green (to tie in the girl scout green tables at the venue).

Man, I must be sick (I am sick...ugh). Dark blue, GOLD and Green. I'm a silver girl, but my dress goes better with gold.

Okay Ladies! Chris and I got a lot of planning done. So far...

    1. We booked a girlscout camp as our venue. We get, an outdoor cathedral (that we aren't using), a full kitchen, a dining hall with a working fireplace (which we will have our ceremony in front of), a huge fire pit and an outdoor pavilion. We're having a bonfire the night before the wedding. $650 from Friday night to Sunday night.

    2. I got my dress and just ordered a cape.

    3. We booked our DJ. One of Chris' coworkers has a daughter that DJs professionally. $350 for 6 hours.

    4. We have our officiant. My long time friend is an ordained officiant and is also Pagan (as are we). He's doing it for free, but we will give him $$.

    5. We decided we're doing pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches and a baked potato bar.

I think that I’m the most excited about ordering flowers for our wedding. I want them to be super colorful! These are sort of the colors that we’re going with but with more of a hot pink.

I'm in the same boat. We're doing a handfasting/pagan ceremony and themed as victorian steampunk. I didnt want a 1 time use dress, it seemed too wastefull! I feel like a lot of "wedding" stuff I'm finding is way over the top or just weird (SO many traditions are just SO STRANGE!!)

We're taking a small break from.wedding planning. Chris and I found a house that is perfect for us. Our closing is April 11 and we're in house mode until then.

Thank you for starting this discussion! Smiley heart

I feel like I do fall under the non-traditional bride category:

    * Planning to wear a short wedding dress, rather than poofy and trained (oh, also, NO VEIL!)

    * Cupcakes are preferred over cake - don't want to cut the cake, I hate knives and cupcakes are more fun

    * Don't want flowers anywhere ... probably not even fake flowers

    * Not planning to have a bouquet toss or garter toss

    * I'm hoping fiancé and I will write our own vows together, and recite the same vows - not do the traditional "Do you, K, take you, J, to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

We haven't come up with a set guest list yet, but I'm estimating it to be around 60 people - under 100, for sure.

It’s great to know there are others out there! We are in our 40’s also, second marriage, 30 people. We aren’t doing most of the traditions. Def doing a first look so we can spend more time with our guests. Otherwise, really just an outdoor ceremony by a pond at a vineyard, and then a party with food.

    That sounds great!

We may be changing plans again.

We're buying a house with a very nice yard and lots of space. We're considering having a small wedding at the house instead of renting the girl scout camp like we had planned. We're thinking it might be nice to have that memory in the house. Plus, then anything we do to the yard to make it pretty for the wedding is just a bonus.

I’ve been thinking the same exact thing! We own our house and it just seems easier in certain ways to just have the wedding here. We would have a lot more time to get everything set up and taken down then if we went with a venue and I really like the idea of doing it around Halloween. And anything purchased like tables and chairs we can always use for future parties.

If we do go with this plan then I want to make my own bouquet like this one. 🎃

That's exactly what I'm thinking. We don't have a huge group of family and friends. I'm wondering if it would be a waste of money to rent the camp. I don't know. We're still thinking about it. We want to get everything settled for the house and move in before we make any real decision. I love that bouquet, by the way.

This house buying thing makes my anxiety crazy. This house is just too perfect and I am so afraid something is going to fall through and we won't get it. I probably will be anxious for the next 46 days until I have keys in my hand.
