Looking for Plated Brunch Reception - Northern NJ

halfmast, on November 8, 2017 at 12:07 AM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 7

Hi there,

I'm recently engaged and just starting out with research - I was hoping to gather some suggestions this community. We're hoping to host a daytime brunch reception in Northern NJ for about 80-90 people in November 2018 for approx $15,000.

I'm having trouble finding brunch menus that aren't buffets though. Does anyone know of a venue that offers a sit-down (sometimes called plated) brunch menu? So far we've looked at the Westwood in Garwood NJ, that does a sit-down lunch, but the brunch is buffet. And a restaurant (Pairings) in Cranford, NJ that has a GREAT sit-down brunch, but only beer and wine are allowed on the premises - no liquor; and a full bar is important to us.

Thank you in advance!

Have you spoken with any of the venues you're coming across to see if they're flexible on doing a plated brunch, even if its not listed as something they offer? We are planning on doing a breakfast-for-dinner theme b/c we love brunch but also wanted a dance party, the venue we ended up choosing (as well as at least 2 others we toured but didn't go with) were more than willing to accommodate our unique vision! It can't hurt to ask!

One of the reasons for having brunch is to give guests more options than they would get at a plated meal, thus the buffet. If someone put a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and one or two other things in front of me, I wouldn't be excited. Going through a buffet and being able to choose several breakfast items and a few lunch items would be far more satisfying to a guest.

That's a lot of specifics. You might need to start contacting venues directly and see if they can accommodate you.

However you may need to simply research more or expand the area you're looking into

Well, my all time go-to place is the Grain House at the Olde Mill Inn, partly because of their amazing staff (ask for Marien or John). PLUS you have an overgrown B&B right there, which eliminates the need for transportation.

    Also try;

    The Tides (ask for Tom)

    Il Tulipano (Ask for Chris)

The Palace (ask for Richard; they may have a higher minimum)

The Bernards Inn (ask for Andrea)

    The Gladstone Inn

The Madison Hotel (Ask for Tim)

    The Brickhouse (Wyckoff)

The Basking Ridge Country Club (Stephanie)

    Highlawn Pavilion (Ask for Chris)

If you can think about NY state, the Carousel at Bear Mountain is just fantastic; I believe Sarah is the person there. It's truly amazing, and pretty cost effective. They have the BM Inn right there too.

Yes we were going to do that too then things changed. Don't know NJ just NY and the bear mountain is awesome - can be reached from the Tapaan Zee easily.
