Looking for unique (and cheap) places to have a reception in Western Massachusetts/ Connecticut

Taina, on March 5, 2015 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

My fiance and I are hoping to have our wedding in Western Massachusetts or Connecticut in July or August 2016. He's from Westfield, MA and I'm from Cromwell, CT. My hopes are we can find an estate or maybe a farm/barn that will let us hold our reception for the day. I've been looking for a little while now and I've been able to find some beautiful estates, but they only accept weekly rentals; no one wants to rent for only a couple days. We want to have a huge tent outside, and go for that "rustic"/"garden" wedding sort of feel. Something romantic, yet relaxed.

Does anyone know of any estates, or people with farms who are willing to rent out their property for like two or three days?

**Also, I should probably mention that I currently live in Michigan, so places with websites or information I can easily google would be really helpful. I won't be going back to the east coast for another few months, so I'm trying to get a list of places to visit ready.

Thanks for your help!

Look for state parks in MA. Most of the park pavillions are made of granite and are beautiful! We're getting married at Bear Brook State Park in NH. The venue is cheap (price to rent the pavillon for the day) and there are no limitations on caterers/djs etc. Just make sure to check out their alcohol policies (we have to pay an officer to be there while drinks are served, but it's cheap to do that). Good luck!!

Thanks Tara!! I think we may end up doing that. I found a park/camp in western mass we might use. They have a weird "noise policy" though...I'm still trying to get that figured out. I have plenty of time, I just want to keep my options open.

You're welcome! Just email the park and they can put you in contact with the right person. I was in contact with Bear Brook 1 year prior to booking the site. I was able to find out all of the details through the contact person. They were very helpful!!

Thanks for the idea Mrs Pereira Smiley smile I'll keep it in mind, but it looks a little out of my price range and a little more formal than I'm going for.

Hi! We fell in love with Lion Rock Farm in Sharon, Ct. It is stunning in person and across the street from a sunflower field. It was a little expensive for us, but half price on Sundays (including holiday weekends). Unfortunately, I found the contact person difficult to deal with. She wanted me to send over the deposit before looking at the contract, which i found very frustrating (especially when you may encounter things like weird noise policies Smiley smile). The website is nothing too spectacular, but i'm sure she would send you photos if you asked.

We decided to go to the beach instead, but below is the website. Good luck!

Thanks Jeannine! I'm curious, how much was it? I don't see a price on their website.

Hi there! I don’t know if she ever did, but we ended up having our wedding at Nobel View in Russel, MA. It was PERFECT. I highly suggest you contact them/take a drive to that location. It’s part of the Appalachian mountain trail. We got married at the top of a mountain with a gorgeous view. On top of that, there are large cabins there that can sleep a lot of people; we booked the entire campsite out and we gave the option to our guests to either sleep in the cabins or to camp out. It worked out perfectly for us and we didn’t have to deal with having a curfew 😊
