Looking to have bottles of wine on tables. Recommendations?

andrea, on July 5, 2017 at 11:41 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

Hello, I am looking to have bottles of wine on the tables at the reception ( in addition to open bar) so guests can just have a glass with dinner instead of going up or waiting in line at the bar. What are good wines, I am not a wine drinker. Looking to have a red and a white. Dinner is stuffed chicken and prime rib if that helps. Also what did your venue charge for these if you did this.

Thanks

Will your venue allow this? I'd check that first.

Yes. They will be supplying the wine. It was part of the options with the bar package but we weren't sure if we wanted it and didn't get a price either

The venue is providing them. We didn't look too much into it on what exactly they had but now I am trying to put myself in my guest shoes thinking maybe it would be nice not to have to get up during dinner to get a glass of wine.

I would definitely check with your venue. There can be a lot of laws/regulations around guests pouring their own drinks. If the venue gives you the thumbs up to allow this I'd get a red and a white for the table since you're serving chicken and beef.

If you are just looking for varietal recommendations based on your meal choices then I would go with a Cabernet and a Chardonnay. Those are the two most popular red and white options and would pair nicely with the beef and chicken options respectively.

@joanna as I said before the venue gives this as an option says "bottles of wine are available to purchase to be placed on the table for your guests enjoyment"

Following! I'm doing the same thing (my venue allows it- yes) and I'm not a wine drinking. FMIL and I have been buying little bottles and trying different reds/whites here and there to see what is good! I've also been asking opinions of people I know that are wine drinkers. Haven't made any decisions yet though

I'd ask the venue to pour wine at the tables; that is what almost all of my venues do. You don't want to purchase bottles for every table that may go untouched.

Types of wine i suggest: chardonnay or pinot grigio for white and for red cabernet sauvignon or merlot. I love wine, lol

Are you looking for brands or varietals? If you are looking for just varietals then the Cab and Chard recommendations I made earlier still stand. If you are looking for Brands and the vendor provides them, then they likely have a list of options to chose from. I could recommend something more specific, but unless they work with the distributor it won't help you much. Do you have a list of options from your venue?
