Losing weight before/after buying the dress

Katie, on March 4, 2020 at 8:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
So I’m currently losing weight for my wedding I have about 7 months prior to my wedding and I WILL lose 65 pounds so I will be 199lbs at least... this weekend I’m ordering my dress this weekend hopefully... I know to order at least 1 size down but I’m not sure if I should do a couple because 65lbs is a lot of weight and I don’t want to have to pay double for alterations... any brides got any tips or preferably a dress size about I should order?! TIA

I ordered a dress a size down because I do plan on losing weight and then if I lose more than expected then I can always get it taken in. However be careful because I was told by the consultant that really dresses can usually be taken down two sizes so if you lose too much weight you may have to pay more in alterations or just get a different dress.

I’m in this situation now... I ordered my dress true to size at the time, and have lost 30 pounds, and have 35 to go. I am a bit worried about the fit and whether they can alter it. However, it is easier to take a dress in than out, so keep that in mind. I would ask the salon what they recommend according to the dress you choose. I would maybe do one size down, but not more than two.

I lost 20 lbs between ordering my dress and my first fitting. The seamstress said she can take it in up to two more sizes but of course it will cost more.

Do not order more than a size down. It’s so much easier to take a dress in than let it out. My friend ordered her dress 2 or 3 sizes down with the intention of losing weight and it just didn’t happen and they had to completely change her dress from the beautiful detailed back to a corset just so she could fit in it. It still looked beautiful, but it definitely changed the look of her dress and it was very expensive to have the corset added.

Buy the dress for your current size. The dress can always be taken in but it is VERY hard to let it out, and sometimes impossible.

Order very close to the size you are. It's much easier to take a dress in than to let it out.
