Losing Weight Impossible?

Kelli, on March 23, 2021 at 9:24 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 1 21
So when I first got my dress, it was wayyy too big and I had it altered about a year ago before I knew my wedding would be postponed to this year. Well with COVID and stress and let’s be honest, boredom.. I’m not the size I was when I had it altered. I know I still have a little more than 3 months but am I being too hopeful that I’ll be able to lose the weight in time? I’ve tried to diet about a million times now but then I end up caving and snacking. I know I have to hold myself accountable and having my dress taken out just isn’t a possibility but maybe someone can relate to me and make me feel like I’m not bonkers for being so worried about this 😬

I would get the dress taken out for your own sanity, but I think you could do a diet if you did the right one. Diets fail because they dont provide enough calories and nutrients, which makes your body tell you to binge to make up for it. I'm now on a diet where I'm never hungry and have lost almost too much weight (had ro get dress taken in again). I eat ZERO processed grains, vegetable oils, or refined sugars--no exceptions. Everything else is fair game--red meat, fish, roasted potatoes, sandwiches, all with as much salt and spices and dressing and oil as I want. I focus on getting enough nutrients and I just simply do not have cravings anymore. If I want something sweet, I have stevia-sweetened dark chocolate or honey or fruit.

For me the will power starts at the store. I don't buy anything that I would binge. I do buy small quantities of healthy snacks and good quality dark chocolate. I pretty much only drink water, cut out all juice and soda, it's just liquid sugar. You will find with time that you crave less sugar. I started using a new app FitOn. It's easy to start and there isn't any pressure. you can choose your level and your trainer, plus it's free. After 3.5 months I've toned considerably and actually gained muscle weight whilst losing fat. I don't even workout everyday. There's also a meditation option for stress. Just in case, you could also ask if putting in a corset back is possible. Always remember healthy is more important than what the scale says.

Something that has helped me is when I joined weight watchers. It holds you accountable and is really a huge lifestyle change. I incorporate more exercise and eat more fresh veggies, fruits and snack on things like unsweetened applesauce if I'm craving sugar. Limit alcohol intake.

When my FH and I started dieting at the end of January we got rid of ALL the bad foods. Anything that was not expired and has not been opened we gave to my cousin's family. Anything that was already opened and past their expiration date we tossed. When it came to grocery shopping we made sure to avoid any and all junk foods. I didn't completely restrict myself of everything. Instead I switched up healthier alternatives:
    Almond milk > Dairy
Pasta made with sweet potato > regular pasta
    Dark chocolate > regular chocolate
    Stevia > Sugar

Here are some other tips that have been helping me:
-If you love coffee, make sure you substitute certain ingredients (example: add almond milk instead of creamer) when visiting Starbucks, Dunkin', etc. because their signature drinks come with A LOT of sugar lol
    -Limit your alcohol intake
-Do your research on what type of healthy foods that can fill you up for hours

I have had a lot of success with intermittent fasting. I do the 16:8.

I have always failed at different diets because I cave in and binge. Last July I started Intermittent Fasting. I eat whatever I want in a certain time window every day. After doing it for a while I now only eat one meal a day, that's under 1200 calories. And I have so far lost 35lbs. That was with taking a 2 month break for the holidays. It's all in the mindset. If you are not actually ready or wanting to lose weight, it won't happen. I joined an intermittent fasting subreddit and it opened my eyes and has been very motivating seeing everyone's progress.

I've been doing this for a year. I don't struggle with binging anymore. I eat in my scheduled time period and it's never more than 1400 calories

I've been doing Weight Watcher (through the app) and lost 10 pounds in my first month. I like that nothing is off limits, but I have a solid structure. Maybe try that and add in some cardio?

I also know several people who have had great results with intermittent fasting, but I haven’t personally tried it yet. I just signed up for Noom (2 week free trial) and it really focuses on the psychology behind why you do the bad habits you do, how to combat it and helps make a strategy for staying motivated. I think it’s going to help me a lot to stay focused

I had the same issue. Gained some weight over quarantine like we all have lol. My dress had to be taken out, but then I decided to get it together and lose the weight. I started using the RP Strength diet app, which is just a macro counting plan. I've lost 20 pounds since January (that was all my quarantine weight + some extra). I had to take my dress back to the tailor to be taken in again. I'm really happy with the results and recommend this app to everyone. It's the only thing that has ever worked for me.

I ended up joining Noom and was super good about it for a few month (it's way overpriced and I would recommend looking for any calorie tracker app that takes into account your exercise for a fraction of the cost). It depends on how much weight you need to lose. It's it 10-15 pounds, small changes make a huge difference. Calorie counting is a huge pain but it's honestly worth it. I used to think I was eating healthy and working out, but I wouldn't lose weight. When I actually took the time to start recording my calories into an app, I found that even though I didn't eat a lot of junk I was eating like **** calories a day on average Smiley atonished . I could have run 3 miles a day and it would not have made a huge difference. Now I average around **** and I've lost around 14 pounds. I could have totally lost more if I were more dedicated.

Buy snacks that are healthy or low cal so even if you are snacking during the day it isn't doing a lot of harm (grapes, nuts, yogurt, berries). Start paying attention to serving sizes because often times what we think is one serving is actually way more. Avoid empty calories like things with a bunch of sugar. Anytime you want to cheat, just eat less of what you would have (half a slice of cake, half the amount of cookies, burger with no fries).

I tried everything and what helped me finally make progress was joining an accountability group. It's a crew of other women and we text each other each night about whether we met our daily goals. It helps me stay motivated since I know if I cheat I'll have to tell the whole group (healthy dose of shame/motivation ). There's also a moderator that will follow up with you if you don't check in - so I definitely feel like I've got to check-in each day. I found it at GroupCoach and love it (lost 15 lbs in the first 2 months).

I have always been a hardcore calorie counter (can’t say I’ve ever had a very healthy relationship with food) and I’m doing just as you suggested.. I allow myself one cheat day a week.. maybe even every other week and even when I do cheat, I’ll eat ramen or two pieces of chocolate so nothing crazy. I also haven’t had fast food in over a month and a half but I’m struggling with the stubborn extra 7-9 pounds. I will admit, when I first had my dress tailored, I was only 104 pounds which was NOT healthy so I am avoiding getting back to that but you are so right.. it’s all about calories in and calories out and avoiding the bad stuff. I just have stubborn saddle bags and bingo wings haha 🤦🏼‍♀️

How often do you exercise? Some targeted strength training could help and muscle burns more calories when you aren't doing anything. I'd honestly concentrate more on inches than weight.

Same here! I recommend start at the store, do NOT buy unhealthy snacks. If your home and bored then it’s going to be difficult to say no to that yummy snackBUT if it’s not there then, great!

I practically keep an empty fridge these days just necessities and healthy snacks like apples, celery sticks, carrots, etc. The downside is going to the grocery every few days.

Thank you everyone for your advice and tips and encouragement!! I’ve done the intermittent fasting, incorporated more protein into my diet, restricted my caloric intake, and do concentrated weight training every day! I am now only 4 pounds away from my goal weight 🙌🏼

I am facing the same issue. Once the pandemic started the weight just kept coming. Now that its warmer I'm starting to get outside more, exercise and watch what I eat. I also started 16/8 fasting which has been helpful. I need to start weight training though that would be helpful too
