Lost all excitement for the wedding

Genevieve, on October 12, 2022 at 10:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
We got engaged in August of 2021 and our wedding date is August 2023, it still about 10 months away but Ive lost the excitement, I'm no longer excited to do wedding planning stuff, I dread talking about the wedding plans. A couple years ago our budget would have been a great budget for what we wanted but this year the wedding market inflation has made our budget seem pretty small and thus I have had to compromise on every single thing Ive wanted for the wedding. Couldn't afford the venue I wanted so we went with something cheaper, couldnt afford the photographer I wanted so we went with someone cheaper, I can't afford the dress I want so I'm looking at consignment stores and online to find something used, the decor I wanted is out of budget so were just going with minimal basic white everything which is actually the one thing I explicitly said I didnt want was an all white everything wedding but white weddings are budget friendly. The fact of the matter is at the end of the day I'm still spending $30,000 to have a wedding that I dont want and its hard to be excited about a wedding thats nothing I want. I only have 2 friends on the guest list even. I just want to be excited and love my wedding day like everything else but I can't figure out a way to make it exciting again.

Why not cut the guest list and upgrade using the extra money to things you want to have?

If you know the dress name or style number/designer, you can check with stillwhite too. Talk to a florist about in season colorful flowers, we saved THOUSANDS by asking our florist for only in season blooms. Check facebook marketplace and local facebook groups for wedding decor, at least in my area there are tons of past brides selling decor and a lot of it is colorful and not all white. I designed using canva and printed at staples almost all of our paper things (signs for decor, programs, invites, etc) to save money. But maybe sit down and see who you could eliminate from the guest list to make it more affordable for you.

Unfortunately at this point I have already paid all the deposits for everything and if I decide to change venues or photographers or anything I'll be out several thousand dollars which is basically what I would save by cutting the guest list.

Thats a good idea about using Canva for things, like the menus and programs and stuff. My parents are getting me a Cricut Maker for Christmas so I'm hoping I can DIY a lot of the signs and make them cute and colorful. As for the guest list my parents list of people to invite is already pretty small I might be able to cut a few people but my fiancé has a large tight knit family so I feel like its harder to cut people on their side but everyone on his side is coming from out of state so I feel like it's pretty likely that a lot will RSVP no because of the travel costs. I just feel like right now I still have to plan as if everyone is coming until the invitations go out and RSVPs come in.

Planning for 100% guest acceptance is prudent and cuts out budget ambiguity. Should you get declines, the found money can be used for optional extras. For decor, I would focus on that which brings a greater impact like uplighting versus chargers or specific flowers. I brought in diy uplighting in the last wk with found $. It can be difficult to edit, but try to use your venue as backdrop as much as possible so you don't have to set-up/ take down/ take home much. I strongly suggest nixing Pinterest and Etsy as comparison only brings disappointment! I would also create a Splurges vs. Saves spreadsheet for each option and vendor to find ownership in each choice. I hope you find the joy again.

A lot of venues will upgrade things if they are making less meals. Some people come across this issue at times where they get a lot of "No" RSVPs. They already "Paid for" a certain amount of guests, so the venue will just reduce the food but add things like special desserts or food items for no extra cost.

My venue is just a location they arent providing food, I have a separate caterer for food, and I dont have to give them a head count until a month before so I hopefully wont end up paying for people who don't show up, but I dont really know how early I can ask people to RSVP. I just wish I was still excited about having a wedding but the more I spend on it and the further away it gets from what I wanted the more unmotivated I get. I just want a way to make it fun again.

Hi honey I was in that error where you are because I was having problems with my family and some friends. With what I should do order wear something that I didnt want I get told that someone else has the last say over how I want my wedding too look like. I had big fights over my own wedding. Have you tried to make your own centerpieces for your reception table to bring some pop of color. And evforvort has table linings of different colors and it doesn't have to be so white and look at other stuff that won't break the bank. For the price that you are spending something of what you want will come thru. And Instead of real flowers why not try the real silk flowers don't cost alot. I hope that you get back excited again

To the dress thing, have your tried Anomalie? I think that’s how it’s spelled. It’s a build your own custom dress place online. Because of Covid I couldn’t have or want the bridal dress experience. I ended up getting the dress of my dreams for 1/8th the price of what they type of dress was going to cost in another space.

This 100%!!! We were supposed to get married in 2020 and I am so happy it got postponed. We cut out half the list of people who didn’t mean much to us and are having a wedding of 58 people vs the 110 we originally had going.

Anomalie was bought by Davids Bridal and won't be making dresses anymore.

For Genevieve,, i hope you find the joy that really is in the marriage. I know what thing recommended for decor is to find kits of wedding decor sold on facebook marketplace and maybe other sites. I think others here will also have great suggestions to make this feel a little closer to your original goals.

They were bought by Davids Bridal who plans to use the dress selection process rather than providing custom dresses. There is another company Lace and Liberty but their prices are higher from what i heard.
