Lost my engagement ring...

Jessie, on January 2, 2020 at 2:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
I know there's not much anyone can help with, but I need to vent. I lost my engagement ring on NYE, didn't notice until I was falling asleep, but just thought I took it off and didn't remember. I wasn't drinking, just went to a few stores and a resturaunt. I called every place I went to, no one has found it and I left my name and number. I've been checking Craigslist, the FB marketplace, to see if someone found it and is trying to sell it. I have spent all day searching for it. I am devastated. I don't think it's insured either. And my fiance doesnt know I lost it yet. I'm so scared to tell him. He spent a lot of money, spent a lot of time looking for it. And now it's gone. I don't know what to do.

I'm so sorry Smiley sad I would definitely go into all those places in person and ask if you can look for it yourself. You'll be able to retrace your own steps better than anyone else. Triple check your car or if you used Uber/public transit they should have a way to get in contact with lost and found.

Are there local town or city facebook pages you could post on? Or even make a public post on your own page and encourage everyone to share it? I hope you find it!!

Oh no Smiley sad I'm sorry to hear. Sounds like you've done a lot already in searching for it. To be honest I think you should tell your partner. I know it's not gonna be a pretty conversation but you can't hide it forever unless you find it soon.

If you have renters or homeowners insurance, your ring (or at least a portion of the cost of the ring) might be covered under that policy. You usually need to have a separate rider for full coverage, especially if it is a higher-value item, but most coverage includes at least a couple thousand for jewelry (after deductible). I agree about telling FH sooner rather than later, and about going back and retracing your steps in person. You may see something or think of something store/restaurant employees might not. You could also make up some flyers and take them to the different locations and ask if they'd be willing to post them, or at least keep them on hand in case the ring turns up. Also, for what it's worth, my SIL lost her wedding set -- it just completely disappeared -- she looked everywhere she could think of with no luck; it was just GONE.... Ten plus years later, she's cleaning out some storage bins in their garage attic and what's in the bottom of one of them? HER RING SET! It must have come off when she was packing up stuff their kids had outgrown, and it sat in the bottom of the bin for more than a decade. I also have a friend who had the diamond come out of her ring -- again, seemingly lost forever. Years later she was cleaning her house (which is always spotless) and found the stone on the floor.... She's certain it wasn't lying on her bathroom floor all those years, but it was in something within the house all that time! So, shake out any clothing, gloves, etc. you were wearing around the time the ring disappeared, go through your bedding, kitchen drawers, etc., AND don't give up hope! You never know.... Good luck!

That's so heart breaking. I am sorry you have to go through this. I remember how anxious I was when I knocked a stone out of mine! Do you take your rings off when you wash your hands? Maybe it got left next to a sink? I agree with PP thay FH should know. I was so scared to tell mine I lost a stone because I felt so dumb. But luckily mine was insured. You can get through this!

Thanks so much for your advice! One thing I might add, I went to 3 furniture stores that day. So who knows if it's in a couch or something!

If it's cold enough where you are that you were wearing gloves, think about EVERY place you were where you took your gloves off, then look wherever you stow your gloves (so, coat pockets, purse, wherever), etc. I'm always struck by posts on this site from nurses/doctors about what a huge risk it is when they take their gloves off on and off throughout the day! Fingers-crossed your ring shows up! xoxoxo Smiley heart

My fiance insured mine before he proposed - just in case something happened (ex. house fire). I would also start going to pawn shops in the area and take a color copy in case someone eventually tried to. I would also contact your local PD and see if they will let you open a case in case someone does try to pawn it. But you need to tell your fiance. Have you checked your car, your bed, house? I would deep clean, see if it fell off and under something. Best of luck. I hope you find it!

Oh no I'm so sorry. I think you've done an amazing job trying to find it. I guess tell him sooner than later, I know this is super tough. Good luck honey!
