Lost original marriage license

Waitingtomarry20, on December 1, 2020 at 6:27 PM Posted in Married Life 0 11
So I lost my original marriage license. Went down to the marriage license place and they gave me certified copy. Does anybody know if I can get an the original with the seal?

If you got another one, it wouldn’t be the original...

It may vary by state, but my state doesn't send out marriage certificates automatically. When we went to the county clerk, we got 2 copies and they both had the seal. I would call the clerk's office and confirm if one with the seal is an option.

I was wondering if they could print one like the original (on colored paper and a official seal). So I can have one that looks like it. The certified copy was on black and white with a seal. I know it is still a copy, but not like the actual lost one.

I know for us we ordered several copies of the marriage license with the seal. We ordered 3 copies and had to pay $10 each

You should call the clerk and ask for this info.

I think this is going to be state specific, so I would really just call the clerk's office and ask them directly.

As in my case, I got an original in color with a sticker seal, a colored copy of the original, and I have a certified copy of my original (in black and white) with a seal. I lost the original one and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation about trying to obtain a replacement/duplicate of the original one.

I would call your registrar of deeds/clerks office and ask. I would assume they could for a fee.

When I received the certified black and white copy at the marriage license place and ask the clerk about getting one that looked like the original, he was of no help. I had to dig online and found a number to the personal records office, which is a separate dept. The best they could do was send a “keepsake” colored version with a sticker seal. I will not be able to use it for document purposes, as the the certified copy will serve that purpose.
So the biggest lesson I’ve learned, is to get multiple variations copied of marriage license when filing because you never know what will happen. 🙁🤷‍♀️
