Lost too much weight for wedding dress

Jessenia, on September 5, 2016 at 11:25 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 17

I was so afraid of this. I am getting married in playa Del Carmen Mexico (Paradisus la Esmeralda) in 17 days. When I first purchased my dress back in December, the owner told me a size 8 would be perfect even if I dropped the 15lbs I was planning on. She said my last fitting would be August 27th (wedding date September 24th). I told her that was too ahead from the date and wanted something closer. She said that wouldn't be possible with all the dresses they need to alter. Well now I'm just about 20lbs down and I'm afraid my dress doesn't hug my body the way I envisioned.

I'm devastated and wondering if I should start looking up seamstress in Mexico. This is a destination wedding. Has this happened to anyone? If this helps, my dress is a Pronovias Mildred. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Take it back to them and ask them for another alteration to be done. Or look up wedding dress alterations places in your area, read reviews...very carefully and take it to them.

Do you have your dress? Have you have your final fitting? Sorry confused by the dates in your post.

I don't have my dress yet. I pick it up on September 18th but I leave for Mexico on September 22nd. When I called the owner told me it's all in my head and it's fine. I asked my sister who is brutally honest and said yes, it can be taken in more.

When did you order your dress? When was it supposed to be in?

You bought it there, gave them your business. They need to honor your wishes.

Order a big pizza and binge watch your favorite show on netflix. That always helps me gain weight.

Maybe find a local shop who can alter it for you in a few days. They're out there.

I would call them and insist on going in to try it on again, even just to set your own mind at ease. If the dates are correct your last fitting was a week ago and they have 2 weeks yet before you pick it up? What happened at the last fitting? You could take it somewhere else but I don't know if you want to risk starting with a new unknown seamstress this late in the game.

I was a seamstress in a bridal shop, and this is the busy month, and squeezing in another dress isn't what they want to do, plus they'd be rush and might not do a good job. But once the dress leaves the shop they won't let you bring it back for alterations or press it either, due to lilibilities. Often foreigners are amazing seamstress. If you want it done right, don't have the bridal shop do it, hire a local at home seamstress but make sure there experienced in wedding gown, or call your hotel in Mexico and see if they have recommendations. Also if it's a strapless dress, if it's not tight you'll be pulling it up all day, which is nerve racking for fear it will fall off Good luck

Wait- if you don't have it how do you know it's to big??

Either tell them they need to take it in- or pick up your dress and take it to another tailor who will bring it in.

This is NOT a crisis- there is plenty of time to get it taken in by a professional.

When was the last time you tried on your dress? If you don't have it, you don't actually know that it doesn't fit?

Also keep in mind you will be walking around in it in a warm place, for a long period of time. If you are a little bit sweaty the dress will stick to you and feel smaller. That could help you a tad.

Definitely pick it up now! Try it on and take it elsewhere before you leave!

The way the seamstress explained to me, is that 5-10 pounds won't greatly affect the fit of the dress.

Also if that had been my problem, I would've grabbed a bowl of chili fries, a pizza and had a beer lol
