Louisiana traditions???

Kristen, on May 23, 2011 at 2:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

FH is cajun and I was wondering if there are any traditions that we could do in the ceremony to include his side of the family. I don't speak with his mother so I was wondering if you ladies have any idea. FH says he hasn't been to a family wedding since he was 5 so he cant remember.

There's a picture of a Third Line wedding party in New Orleans on my dashboard you can look at. I know a bit about New Orleans traditions and am partially of Cajun descent myself. Let me know what denomination you are working with and I'll see what I can do to help. Where are you holding the wedding? I am based in the Los Angeles area but travel to Louisiana in June and December.

Well we actually have no denomination Rev Dee. It's going to be a very untraditional wedding with many different themes mixed together. The wedding will be in Georgia December 17th. Thanks for the help to both of you!

I lived down there for 2 years...and I don't know of any particular ceremony things that are different. I know they love that umbrella dance (lol I'm a yankee so I have no idea what it is called or what it's about) grooms cakes, and LOTS of food. You could probably get it catered with some cajun food, serve King Cakes and Hurricanes etc. I remember a lot of wedding cakes having charms hidden in them with ribbon...that was a southern tradition I believe....not New Orleans.

I am going to second the wedding charms hidden in the cake. It's really cute! It is a Victorian tradition but is super popular in the south (well at least to all the southern weddings I have attended). Here is a website:
