Low budget dj options

Stephanie, on August 31, 2023 at 10:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
I'm having a small intimate 40 max count wedding and I'm struggling on who is going to be the DJ and play our music. The reception would be anywhere from 5:00pm-12:00am and DJs are pretty pricey :/ Our wedding is in January 13,2025! It'll be here before you know it

Where is your reception going to be? Is it a big room? I'd say just do a playlist but it entirely depends on your venue.

Thank you it's not too big. Enough space for a DJ of course. We can certainly try a playlist!

I would ask myself if a DJ is even necessary. I've been to several small, intimate weddings; and guests weren't dancing at any of them. It was actually what made us decide not to have a DJ at our intimate wedding. With less than 40 people, it can feel awkward to dance. Are your guests huge dancers?

Like PP said, with smaller weddings there tends to be less dancing (of course this depends on exactly who you invite!)

If you want a dancing vibe and don't want to paya DJ, you could find some "Party mixes" on youtube that you like. Its like having a playlist, but much better because they are made by actual DJs so the songs are mixed together.

Do you want to dance or just have background music? If you want dancing, invest in a dj. You can find them within your budget on Yelp, Google and Thumbtack. If you don’t want dancing, then Spotify will work. The size of your guest list is irrelevant, because we have attended large weddings with a dj and only 10-20 people were consistently on the dance floor and everyone had a great time. At the same time, we have attended weddings where the couple had a Spotify playlist for 50 people and no one danced because it wasn’t danceable and no one was able to navigate the playlist and technology that was used.

In that case, I would definitely suggest hiring an experienced DJ.

They can be pricey! We had a small wedding — 48 people — and had a DJ and mostly everyone danced. I think a DJ sets a different vibe than just having a playlist. But I understand budget. Keep looking around and see who you can find in your budget. I personally prefer a DJ
