Low country boil for rehearsal dinner

nolegirl, on October 17, 2017 at 7:49 PM

I would love to have a low country boil style dinner catered for our rehearsal dinner. But my sister (also MOH) said it is not nice enough and we need to have a more formal dinner. What do y'all think? Would you be excited to have a low country boil for dinner or think we needed something nicer?

A RD doesn't have to a formal plated meal -- unless you want it to be and can afford it.

As for the low boil plan -- I get it. Lots of people love the idea. Me? I can't eat any form of seafood without experiencing an unpleasant reaction. In fact, the mere smell of seafood cooking makes me gag. I would really appreciate it if you had fried chicken or pizza available for me...either that or I'll eat before or after your RD.

Not sure if others agree, but to me as long as the food as good, I dont care how fancy it is (nor the venue). I rather be served good BBQ at an informal wedding, then appetizers only at an upscale place. I have been to a lot of non-formal rehearsal dinners, and they have been my favorite.

I think that sounds AMAZING! But I'm from New Orleans, so crawfish, potatoes, & corn is always appetizing to me lol.

Besides that, however, any other form of seafood makes me sick. So as others said, make sure there's an alternative to those who cannot stomach or otherwise do not like this!

Personally I wouldn't like this since I don't like seafood. But if you had another option it could work. Smiley smile Edit: I saw your update to add an alternative. Good luck and I hope people enjoy it!

Sounds delicious to me! Just be sure to have a vegetarian option and a non shellfish option for those with allergies.

RD can be anything you want. I'm thinking of doing a crab feast.

Ugh best thing about moving to SC.

I did pizza, Italian subs, and cheesesteaks for my RD so I say throw formality out the window. Just make sure your guests can actually eat seafood or have something available for those that cannot.

I love this idea! And yay for having an alternative cooked and kept separately. My son is allergic to shellfish and we went to a b-day party this weekend that had bacon wrapped shrimp. They took them off the grill and put them in the pan with the hot dogs they had cooked for the kids. My son couldn't even eat a hot dog.

As long as everyone likes seafood, it's great. I've heard of people getting pizza for the RD if it's just a casual thing for the BP to enjoy together. It doesn't have to be fancy.
