Low/ No connectivity at venue - recommendations?

Emily, on June 24, 2020 at 10:30 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
Our wedding is at a venue that's in a rural area, and connectivity is effectively 0 when we were out there visiting. No cell, no 4G.

The venue coordinator says they have WiFi and not to worry about it, but I'm concerned for people not being able to call a cab/ parents with kids being babysat at home being extremely nervous about it. I think I'd be pretty anxious about it as a guest.Any experiences or tips on what's possible? Need some brainstorming here.

I got married on a mountain in the middle of nowhere...no signal and the WiFi was sketch. I could make and receive phone calls but sometimes had to call over a dozen times for it to go through. If I had advice I would have used it myself but this is certainly something to think about!

I think it would be stressful. Does the venue have a landline guests can use? I would also include this info on an insert with your invites.

I got married in a venue that was upstairs and the connectivity was HORRID - virtually none and there wasn't even wifi aha. i personally was ok with it because at weddings you know you're supposed to be more engaged anyway with other guests and mingling, etc.

so there are some options you could have - there are portable hot spots you could get but you might need multiple ones. but like you said if there's wifi it should be ok right?

We had no cell service at our venue and limited wifi. I mentioned this on the website & on a details card on the invites. We provided transportation for our guests if they drank and needed a ride home. You could always look into portable hotspots, or preschedule cabs/ubers to be there in advance at the end of the night?

Before cellphones everyone used the landline. There's no reason they can't do so now. Plus, more people will be in the moment instead of checking their phones every 10 minutes. Provide the phone number and anyone needing to get in touch in the event of an emergency can call the venue directly.

Sadly didn't occur to me until after I sent, but I'm going to ask and post to website if they have one! .. Kind of wondering if it will be "manned" on the night of the event though, but worth a shot.

Hey! Can you note what you did - like prescheduling the Ubers? Not everyone would need or want it, so trying to think on how I could integrate that.

We hired full charter buses! It was an option on our RSVP so we knew we needed 2 65 person buses. I think you can do uber credits though to possibly preschedule?

Often times even if you can’t get a call through, a text will go through. Hopefully the venue has a landline you can use for emergencies but I’d bet texts will go through (out and in).

Uber/Lyft services also have programs where you can set up a budget ahead of time and people can use a promo code for your event. Then their fee comes out of your budget, up to however much you set. I've heard this is cheaper than renting a bus.

As far as wifi goes, I'd either ask about a landline or try to get a hotspot set up.

Oh that's a good idea on the promo code version. I'll have to figure out how feasible that is (kind of a rural area - don't really know whether there will be a good enough presence)...

And I'm definitely asking about the landline/ emergency call situation.
    Thanks all!

I agree with this. Unless there is a dire emergency which can be handled via landline, I don't see it being an issue.
