Lyrics in wedding programs? Here comes the Bride? ...other 1 or 2 songs?

Mrs. Noble, on March 26, 2013 at 6:10 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I originally had our story in first draft of program but it was quite lengthy so i took out the whole thing and just posted the website on the last page.

I want to include a couple of song lyrics, following the ceremony part of the program, partly because I am hard of hearing, as well as several other people who will be there. (FH has normal hearing, so he can make the lame phone calls, haha. - I make plenty of them, though.)

Mom is coming to visit in less than 2 weeks, so I want to have a program done that she will hopefully like. (LOL.. ugh!) ...or be okay with my 50% reduction of tree-killing.

Anyways, I looked up Here comes the Bride. and I'm not sure what is typically done but we have agreed on this one. Does a vocalist normally sing it, while the music plays? Which version?? I've looked online and found several.

Other than... here comes the bride, fat and wide, see how she wobbles from side to side, where is the groom- in the dressing room- looking for his underwear... NO!

    What I found:

Wedding March -English version of Bridal Chorus - opera Lohengrin by Wagner, 1850

    Faithfully guided, draw near

to where the blessing of love shall preserve you!

Triumphant courage, the reward of love,

joins you in faith as the happiest of couples!

    Champion of virtue, proceed!

    Jewel of youth, proceed!

Flee now the splendour of the wedding feast,

may the delights of the heart be yours!

This sweet-smelling room, decked for love,

now takes you in, away from the splendour.

    Faithfully guided, draw now near

to where the blessing of love shall preserve you!

    Triumphant courage, love so pure,

joins you in faith as the happiest of couples!

Here Comes the Bride - Baker, 1946

    Here comes the bride,

    All dressed in white,

Sweetly, serenely in the soft glowing light.

Lovely to see, running to thee,

    True love united for eternity.

Modern Translation - John Rutter, 1995

Led here in faith, draw near with joy,

Love's guardian angel will watch over you!

The last line of that last one was:

... Joined in a bond none can destroy,

Now you are one in your love ever true!

There are actually lyrics to that song? I learn something new every day! I've only ever heard it as instrumental.

I never knew that song had lyrics! I have never been to a wedding that used them, just the instrumental version. I did contemplate putting song lyrics in our program, as it is the words to the song that mean the most to me. But, we decided we didn't need programs, so there went that idea...

Maybe that is more of a southern gospel thing, but it did not seem that way to me.

Maybe because the translation doesn't really have too much of a rhyme to it, eh?
