Mac or Sephora?? The timeless debate

Kristen, on November 7, 2019 at 10:09 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16

So I am going to do my own hair and makeup for my wedding since it will be out of the country. My hairdresser I can get tips on how to do a simple style as I will wear a veil that is elbow length but I do not want to chance make up nor am I am going to fly to our destination for a make up trial lol. I like how the people in Mac look with their make up and for the most part I like the make up of the ladies that work in Sephora. If you ladies have experience getting make up lessons or make up done for your wedding or pre/post wedding activities from either of those places can you share your experiences? If you have other advice for a not too expensive make up tutorial (especially in Tampa Bay) I am open to it.

Personally I think MAC is nice but overrated. I would prefer going to Sephora and getting a makeup trial and then buying either full size items or travel size.

    Hey Kristen!

The difference with Mac and Sephora is that Mac only uses their own products, while Sephora has a huge number of brands stocked in their stores. Do you typically use Mac products? If not, it may be a good idea to try Sephora as they will have a bigger selection of brands and products to try out on you.

Do you have any particular makeup looks that you want to recreate?

Hi hi. I have used mac foundation before and loved it. That is why I was willing to give them a chance. Ultimately, they are teaching me how to do my own make up. I just want the natural bride look but I want to be professional camera ready. I know how to do make up but when having been a bridesmaid I did not care if it was flawless lol...now I do. I am doing a destination elopement so I do not want to put my hands into someone else I will not have had the chance to do a trial with. I have seen that go wrong for a few brides who's wedding party I have been in. I will do my own hair too after getting some advice from my hair dresser. Something to do this effect 21446b6eec10dd****a3bfbd9ac5f

I 100% prefer Sephora. I made the mistake of getting a full face done at MAC yesterday for a photo shoot and was extremely disappointed.

    Reasons I was unhappy:
    - The service. I had paid for a technician’s undivided attention but she kept walking away to help other customers
    - The makeup application itself. PACKED on foundation (especially under eye) and a lip color that I didn’t want, ask for, or look good on me. I grabbed some tissues before I left and sat in my car afterwards fixing the makeup that she put on. My fiancé (who doesn’t care a bit about makeup) even agreed that I didn’t look like myself.
    - Failure to communicate. I addressed ALL of these concerns (and more) to the MUA who brushed them off. “I’ll fix it later” or “No it really looks good that way.”

I’ve never had any of these problems at Sephora, and if I ever needed anything “fixed,” the MUAs complied because I felt they wanted you to feel your best.

Thanks for the insight. Change of things, I asked a friend of mine who did her make up for her wedding and she gave me the name of her person and she would charge less than Mac so I think I am going to work with her lol. I prefer make up artists that work for themselves rather a company but now that you had that experience no Mac for me lol.

I would splurge and maybe look for a make up artist for the day. Can be expensive but maybe not. Have you searched?

Make up artists will travel they will just charge but I am sure there has to be at least one in that area. I would suggest seeing if there is facebook group for your area. There is one her and when I posted I am looking for an MUA there are a lot of independent ones that are not on wedding wire because they are mobile or building their business.
