Macy*s Registry - Credit Card Worth It?

I'm not a big fan of store credit cards. I prefer cards like capital one where I can shop anywhere and get 1.5% back cash but that's just my opinion.

It will affect your score when you open or close a credit card. If you're buying a house for ex, the lending broker would not want you to open a new card

I prefer the cash back cards myself! I have one through my bank, capital one, and amex. I've already gotten $100 cash back just from using them to pay for all my wedding stuff so far

Their card is horrible but I have it because every once in a while I shop there. It is best if you link it. I did but again their card is garbage.

Really? I didn't know Macy's required linking for perks. we were actually going there today for our registry. my FH might have a card with them sense he worked there but idk...

I recommend it only if this will be your only registry. According to the contract you only receive 5% of any eligible purchases. In order for it to be worth it, you would have to have high-end and/or a ton of items on your registry. And this would have to be the only option for your guests to make purchases.

As far as the card goes, don't bother. We cancelled our card after paying it off just before the wedding. The interest rate on a Macy's card is between 17% - 25%. And if you don't pay the monthly balance in full, the interest could wipe out the discount you got for signing up.

They gave us a gift card since we don't have a Macys card.. they never told us we needed a Macys credit card.

Good to know! I know my mom has all the major store cards so she can get the extra savings during sales, but I never shop normally at dept stores so it's a waste for me. Do your moms have cards that you can link it to instead?

Yes, this is going to be our only registry so we have everything on it. I kept hearing about how amazing the rewards are since you get 5% back in a gift card for every single gift that was purchased. I didn't realize I needed to link a card....If I knew this I would have registered somewhere else but now we have spent hours on this Macys registry I don't want to go to another store to re-do it! Oy... not sure what to do... thank you for your help.
