Macy's vs. bbb vs. ???

Tiger Bride, on September 6, 2019 at 9:49 AM Posted in Registry 0 10

Hi WW! FI and I are getting to the fun part of registering for gifts and are trying to decide where to register. He wants to do BBB because "everyone does it" but I have been wanting to do something different, like a Macy's or Bloomingdale's or something. Many of the places have the same stuff, so I'm not sure if it would be a big deal?

Something I notice about BBB is they always seem to have stuff out of stock - not the weird one-off bamboo toothbrush holder, but normal stuff like certain colors of towels, plates, etc. Every BBB registry I've seen has had this: the couple will register for three different colors of Fiesta Ware or something and one color is out of stock the whole time. I am planning to ask for individual plates rather than place settings (I already have mugs, they're so unnecessary) and BBB already has one of the patterns I like out of stock.

I also feel a little biased because I like department stores like Macy's and JCP and feel like I personally would rather shop there (including after the wedding).

Am I crazy? How did y'all pick?

We actually went w/ mostly Amazon. Originally I had stuff from Crate & Barrel, Target, MyRegistry.com, BBB & Amazon - I wound up removing almost everything besides 2x items on my target list (wasn’t available on Amazon), & dishwater from myregistry.com (Corelle that wasn’t available on Amazon). I made this decision bc I noticed that the Amazon was getting the most hits & bc the majority of the ppl that we know have Prime - or if they didn’t the gift met the amt. needed for free shipment.

We chose Amazon just because they have EVERYTHING and we're prime members so I think we get 20%(?) off whatever isn't purchased on our registry after the wedding!

I had one set up for both.

However, there’s nothing on the 3B due to a snide comment that I heard in the store by an employee.

You can be registered at multiple places! Just make sure the same items are not on both registries. We are registered at Amazon and Macy’s which gives us a nice range of prices.

We registered at Macy's for nicer stuff like China, crystal, bedding etc and then BBB for everyday plates, most kitchen accessories, etc. The nice thing about BBB is that they ALWAYS have coupons and the free shipping limit is low - these are things I always appreciate as a wedding/shower guest. I liked Macy's too, but they didn't have as many "open stock" items as BBB - something to consider if you're not registering for sets of anything.

I would probably just do both in your shoes.

We have Crate & Barrel, Target, and Wanderable (honeymoon registry). About 2/3 of our registry is at Crate & Barrel, and the other 1/3 is mostly Target. Our honeymoon registry is small, and just "nice to have" if anyone decides they would rather give us money rather than an item from the physical registries. My experience has been really positive with all of them so far! My sister did Amazon & Target last year.

Thanks everyone for your replies so far! We are going to have multiple registries (already did one at REI!) but I was only thinking of having one per category. It's helpful to know that doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

This is really helpful, I hadn't thought of doing it this way.

I do have a small registry at BBB, but I also did one at Macy's, not only because it's my favorite store, but also because of the way BBB has stuff out of stock a lot. But I really do love the home section at Macy's. They have lots of beautiful bedding that I would love to have, and great kitchen stuff!!

I've heard bad things about BB&B if you go into the store, just FYI. We registered on Amazon and it was so easy and we loved it.
