Magnet Postcard?

Candice B., on January 3, 2013 at 10:36 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

I need to get my Save the Dates out this month. I'm DIYing them and want them to be magnets. BUT, I want detail on the front and back of the Save the Date (the front has one of our e-pictures, Save the Date, date and location, the back has info about our website and "formal invitation to follow..blah blah blah).

I originally wanted to use Vistaprint, but my dilemma is that I can't upload my back image to the magnet templates AND my template is postcard.

1. Any suggestions on how to make this work?!!

2. Can I even send a magnet postcard in the mail without an envelope?

(I hope I wan't too confusing)

    AMY!! BESTFRIEND!!! LOL!

I didn't think I could put a magnet in the mail withou an envelope. Just thought someone knew something I didn't know.

But, yes. I want to put information on both sides of the magnet...Not sure how to either.

I'm not sure that your guests will realize there is information on both sides of a magnet even if it can be done. Is there any way you can combined the information on one side or perhaps have an additional card tacked to the magnet that can be removed after they receive it in the mail?

    Honey,

Before I was thinking I could send a magnet postcard (because I seen it as an option on Vistaprint). But then I began to realize "I'm not sure if I can send a magnet in the mail without an envelope".

So, now I need to explore other options. I still want the magnet, and still need the other information as well soooo back to the drawing board with the help of you guys. Your advice is a good idea though. THANKS!

You can contact the United States Postal Service about whether or not you can mail magnet postcards. Here's a link to email them: http://faq.usps.com/eCustomer/iq/usps/request.do?create=kb:USPSFAQ&forward=inquiryType

or you can call Call 1-800-ASK-USPS® (800-275-8777)

then you can go from there because that's probably the best way to get your answer. If you can't mail them then its back to the drawing board.

I don't think you would be able to have anything printed on the back of the magnet, but try contacting the designer. Usually they are more than happy to help you customize the product. Putting the magnet in an envelope sounds like a good idea, since it will protect the magnet in the mail.

How about you do the free VP postcards, info on both sides. And when they arrive, cut a little adhesive magnet section and attach it to the postcard.

Or design the Save the Date info on a small magnet and the words on the 100 free postcards. You could attach the small magnet to the postcard with glue dotes. Magnet can be mounted on the front or the back. But if mounted, you will need an envelope.

Lindsay W. - I will let you know!

Honey- Will do! Wouldn't hurt to ask and search around. Thanks for the link!

Hayley - Actually, that was my original idea (getting postcards and attaching magnets to them), until I seen "Magnet Postcard" on Vistaprint. I may be going back to that idea though.

The only tip for the "magnet postcard" -- which I think it is called because of the size, not because it is mailed without an envelope -- would be to make your design on the front, and then use the Free return labels for the little wording you wish to have on the back. (Website & formal invite to follow) But, who knows if your guests will flip over a large magnet. I know I wouldn't.

Ohhhh, calling it a "magnet postcard" because of it's size makes sense now. Why didn't I think of that.

I used a postcard, just like Hayley suggested, for my STD and used both sides.. I also ordered smaller magnets which most people used to hold the postcard up on their fridge Smiley smile
You can get both for free I believe and standard postage (.45) mailed them with no problems!

Hi... I do this for a living and no you cannot mail the magnets without an envelope, usually when they say postcard magnet it does pertain to the size. Often when I have a bride that wants a lot of info in their STDs I make a postcard with all of the information and a magnet with all the most important info. Also if you are going to DIY make sure you get the right type of magnet to print on for your type of printer. Otherwise you will probably smear the ink. If you need any help don't hesitate to email me. ********************@*****.*** Good Luck!

So Jen, you mailed the postcard and magnet together in the envelope?

And did the back of your postcard say "Postcard" somewhere? The template I have does, and it has a space for our address and the guest's address. I guess I can put something else on the back, but the template for the back goes so perfect with the front.

I remember seeing your STD on another post. Would you mind posting it again?

    Thanks for your suggestions everyone!

(I will make this work one way or another!! LOL)

I did magnet save the dates and they are the exact size of a postcard (definitly bigger then most magnets I have seen)! I got them from WeddingPaperDivas and they turned out perfect!

I did have to mail them in an envelope, but they even had designs that looked like old school, vintage postcards that can be ordered as magnets, you should check it out!

Hayley, I'm using this template (see link below). My saved one is on my MacBook at home (and I'm at work). I LOVE this one so much because it goes perfect with my theme and it's what I envisioned

Jen, YES!! I may need to know how to custom design the back of mine!

    Cute!

I would just add an image over the "to - from" lines of the postcard. Then you can have a cute picture of you two on the front and on the back and keep the cute fonts from the template.
