Magnet Save The Date

Biaani, on August 5, 2020 at 11:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 30

As the time to order my STDs approaches I have a question . .

Are magnets really worth it? I want regular paper ones cause if people wanna put it on their fridge I figure they probably already have magnets they can use. BUT FH wants to get magnet ones. I know this can add up.

What do you guys think? What made you decide on what you got?

We got magnets and everyone LOVED them. They were convenient because no one had to worry about misplacing them. We used Vistaprint and they weren't expensive at all!

I personally prefer magnets because I know I will lose a card sent to me. A magnet is easy for me to stick on the fridge and I will always know where it's at in case I need to find it. We did wooden magnets as our Save The Dates (since we hadn't taken our engagement pictures by the time we were going to send out save the dates), and they turned out well!

I would prefer a magnet since you can stick it on the fridge. A card has the potential to get lost

We chose STD magnets. I have just always liked them better. I have a history of losing paper STDs, but the magnet ones I never lose!

We did magnets, and I prefer them. I also got mine through Vistaprint and I paid like $50 for 100 magnets.

We didn't use a magnet due to cost. We originally needed 100 save-the-dates and addressed and sent all of them out. That was already going to be a lot of money so we stuck to paper. Then covid came and we unfortunately needed to send out the "uninvites" AND new save-the-dates to the 14 people who could still attend. Knowing we would still have to pay for invitations, we still stuck with paper. If they want to hang it up, they can use their own magnet, like you said. It really depends on how many you need to buy though and if the price is right.

Whether it's worth it or not really comes down to your preference. There's no way to say if the majority of your guests will want to put your magnet on their fridge or not. As a guest, when I receive a save the date and/or invitation, I put the details into my Google calendar and then toss it. I don't like clutter and once it's in my calendar I know there's no way I can lose or forget it. So, from my perspective as a guest, I don't really care what I actually receive in the mail.

That said, in today's ever-changing world, I think spending a lot of money on save the dates makes little sense. So many people have had to resend them, send "change the dates", and rescind invitations. I would just notify your VIPs of the date and then just wait to send invitations to everyone else closer to the event.

I was pleased with the magnets I ordered from Simply to Impress. They had a lot of size options and you can customize them pretty well. I spent about $130 for 70ish 4x5.5 magnets. Beware of the size you choose because really large ones will require additional postage. It tells you that on there (ours did not need more). I made a special request to change the background color of the magnet because it wasn't a listed option, and they accommodated at no charge and also provided a virtual proof with each change for me to OK. Unfortunately we ordered too many and wasted about $25-30 so make sure you count correctly LOL. I did better with invitations. Sure, i ended up wasting money because we postponed, but last December when I ordered them I had no way of knowing that! Something to keep in mind..

We looked into both options. Magnets were more expensive and I just didn’t think it was worth it. They also cost more to mail due to weight. We sent regular paper ones and I saw them on several of our friends fridges.

We considered magnets because of the reasons many pp have said. However, we just ordered our STDs and we had decided against magnets.

The biggest thing for us was if we got magnets, we would have to also get envelopes for them all plus the costs of the magnets themselves. Instead, we actually did postcards.

We weren't even going to do STDs but we're getting married out of town from almost everyone so hotels might book up if we don't. We got our postcards from magnetstreet which also sells magnets and cards. The postcards were about $40 in total for 75.
