Should a Brides Maid of Honor be selected based on the relationship with the bride( best friend, sister, cousin etc.) or should dependability, responsibility also be a factor.
Im in a dilemma, I always imagined my best friend from high school being my maid of honor since my only sister passed and she was there for me after acting as my sister. But recently we haven’t been as close as we used to and don’t talk as often as we used to. I have no problem asking one of my sister in laws to be my maid of honor but both or not the logistical type and aren’t very dependable. However my best friend is. She plans parties and crafts all the time and she would be the ideal maid of honor. However I’m just worried that 10 years from now we might not even be friends . Any advice ?

Unless you think the person is so flaky they wouldn't even show up to the wedding, I'd go with the one with whom you have the closest relationship. The MOH isn't really responsible for anything but showing up at the wedding wearing the correct oufit.

Aw man this a tough one... I have cousins that I used to be very close with and wanted them as bridesmaids and I put my older sister as my MOH. But if I didn't have my sister I would choose my cousin that I grew up with as practically twins having matching outfits matching toys etc bc even though we went through so much and drifted a part throughout the last 10 years, she is like my sister and I know she loves me whole heartedly. (My oldest sister passed too when I was younger). I'm very sorry for your loss, and that you're having a difficult time with this but I would choose the best friend because that's who she is - your best friend. And you could still ask your SIL to be either Matron of Honor or just a bridesmaid with duties that they have the skills to help with... Good luck!!
