First of all, before you decide on your title for her, have you asked this newer friend to be a bridesmaid period? You should start with that. I'd think that if you've already been a bridesmaid in her wedding, then that alone shouldn't be weird. Then ask her if she wants the "matron of honor" title and then would like to work alongside with your other best friend to continue with the rest of the planning.

Maid vs Matron just refers to their marital status (not married would be a maid and married would be a matron). As far as qualities, there's really only 1: who is the person closest to you and whose support you value the most-that's who you choose to stand closest to you as the MOH.

A ride or die! A person that is always there when you need them: financially, emotionally, socially, mentally, and spiritually. These types of people you know will be at your wedding and make it the perfect day for you. You know this type of person will help you with ideas, help you pick things, plan the bachelorette and bridal shower, and just will make sure your day goes like it supposed to.

I have three of my best friends for life. Two maids of honors and one matron of honor.

The person who is closest to you. That's pretty much it.

My Maid of Honor and Matron of Honor are my two best friends. My Maid of Honor is really the only one assuming the traditional "MOH" duties, mostly because that's who she is.

Some people will say that you should pick a MOH based on how organized she is and whether or not she likes to plan things, but I think you know your friends best. To me, your MOH(s) should be the girls you 100%, without a doubt, cannot imagine not having right next to you on your wedding day. If they aren't organized or into planning, then you know them and you'll know that going in and you can adjust your expectations accordingly.

Maid and Matron just depends on if she's already married or not! So I have one of each!
