Maid of honor/bridesmaids proposal

Meghan, on August 1, 2019 at 12:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
Did anyone pop the question for their MOH/Bridesmaids?

Im trying to keep costs down but also want to get something nice for my sisters, cousin, & sister in law when I ask them to be by my side.
(I will have approx. 7)

Any suggestions?

I didn't but I kind of regret not because that would have been cute. I did end up buying them these hair ties and it came with a card that said will you help me tie the knot and be my bridesmaids?

** but that was a part of their gift rather than proposing to them aha. But that idea was cute because it was a play on words

I gave each one of mine this https://www.etsy.com/listing/590790774/bridesmaid-proposal-box-rose-gold?ref=yr_purchases

While it was kind of pricey (I had 6) I think it was definitely worth it. They all loved it!

    Hey Meghan!

If the date on your profile is correct, I would hold off asking anyone to be in your bridal party just yet. Lots can change from now until your wedding, and I've seen so many brides on here regret choosing so early. Waiting until a year out is what's typically suggested. Good luck!

Honestly, I speak from experience as I recently proposed to my 8 girls. Is it necessary? No. It is a thoughtful sweet touch? Absolutely. The more details you put into it, the more it’s going to cost. I spent about $100 on each box because the box was custom made and included candles, alcohol, robes and other treats and goodies. Also, I invited all of them to a brunch that included champagne and paid for it myself. This is once in a lifetime (ideally) so it’s okay to go a little overboard if your budget allows.

I’m also doing proposal boxes similar to Jill! But DIY most of it, I bought the tumblers and boxes on Amazon and got Vinyl of their names off Etsy and personalized it myself, I added a mini bottle of wine and champagne for my MOH and things I know they each like, such as chocolate, bath bombs, mini candles etc. i’ll be using different phases for each like, “I can’t say I do without you, will you be my bridesmaid?”

I gave my bridesmaids (I only have 4) a necklace with their initial. Here is the listing on etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/223156093/initial-necklace-letter-necklace-collier?ref=user_profile&frs=1

I wanted the gift to be something not related to the wedding/their role so they could wear/use it all the time. I see them wearing the necklaces all the time and it makes me so happy! I also gave my maid of honor a custom candle that said "will you be my maid of honor?" because she loves candles and I wanted to get her something extra and personal to her.

I know I will be spending more money on gifts for my girls closer to the wedding and I am paying for their hair and makeup so I wanted to keep this cost low.

Ah that’s such a great point! We don’t have a day yet (just had that entered when creating the profile), but thank you for this tip. I think everyone keeps asking questions and saying they can’t wait to be asked that I keep feeling behind already when we don’t even have a date.

This is important too! This was another reason I held off on gifting something wedding specific and why I did not want to spend too much on the gift. I have over a year left and I know one of the girls might change her mind about being in the wedding. (I asked her even knowing this because it meant a lot to her to be included, I won't be buying robes and things like that until much closer to the date when I know if she is staying in the wedding)

I asked my girls during Christmas and made them each a "cozy night in" themed box. Each one had a monogrammed mug, fuzzy socks, and lots of goodies. In all I think I spent about $15-20 for each girl.

I put these together, I have 1 MOH and 3 bridesmaids. I bought everything separately and spent about $30 per box. Of course not necessary but they were fun to put together and the girls loved them!

All the girls knew the second I got proposed they would be bridesmaids but I still wanted to be cute.

I got a custom bag with their names on it $4 each

    a custom wine tumbler $12

$3 will you be my bridesmaid cards

    & a robe$15

They all loved it and will be using the day we get ready.

I just took my girls out to lunch or dinner one on one and asked them! Seemed like a nice gesture but nothing too expensive! Smiley smile

FH is a graphic designer, and I LOVE coffee. So we did coffee mugs that he designed to say "a wedding is brewing, will you be my bridesmaid" along with a little airliner bottle of vodka and a hot cocoa packet. All in all I think I spent about $15/girl for 8 maids. FH asked his groomsmen with a personalized shot glass that had a picture of him with the groomsman and "will you be my groomsman" on it.
