Make my own wedding cake

Cara, on February 23, 2022 at 8:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 18
I'm thinking of making my own wedding cake because my fiance and I are both chefs and I think by making your own wedding cake and do our own cake tasting that will save money. What are your thoughts?

Personally, I do not want to be doing big projects the days leading up to my wedding and I did not want my family to do that either. I just know that we’ll be doing so many other last minute things that I don’t want to add extra stress on to that. But if you like baking and don’t mind doing a big wedding project the day before your wedding then go for it!

    Hey,

I think it’s a great idea and put a personal touch to your wedding. It’s not something I wouldn’t do and FH is a chef also. I’m just thinking about everything that as a bride you have to do before the ceremony. Don’t know how big of a wedding you have but that would be a lot of cake to stack and decor. Still in all love the idea and personal touch.
Question do your venue offer the cake in their packages?

Fun idea! I think the only downsides would be logistics. Do you and FH really want to be baking and decorating, as well as transporting a cake the days leading up to and the day of your wedding? Also, many venues do not let you bring in food that wasn't made in a certified kitchen, ie: things made at home, due to food safety concerns. So you would have to ask them if it was okay to do that.

I think most people would suggest finding some other DIY projects that can be done ahead of time (signs, centerpieces, etc) to add the hands on personal touch without so many logistics to consider

Okay, I would ask that when you are looking around. Our venue is what I call a one stop. Food, bar, cake and some extra are included. It save with the stress lol

In the week leading up to my wedding, I wouldn't have had the time to make and decorate a wedding cake, and the day of my wedding, I wouldn't have wanted to worry about transporting it and setting it up at the venue. That's just my thought though.

Nobody knows what you like better than yourselves! That sounds like a fun date night idea... You make your sample, he makes his, and you both taste each others and share likes and dislikes. Plus y'all can practice the cake smashing. Smiley laugh I wish you both the best. Enjoy.

I think it is a great idea to do your own cake! You can also make arrangements for its transportation and set up on the wedding day if you and your significant other have other things to do.

Wow so cool that you have the space and talents. I say Make your own cake, just make it easy on you as the baker. make a cute 2 tiered simple cake and add a cake topper. I am going cheap on the cake (I personally never eat the cake as a wedding guest) and I am getting a 2 tiered white cake from Market Of Choice bakery (great local grocery store) and also buying like 200 cannolis (Italian wedding) and chocolate covered strawberries, and my Day of Coordinator will set up my dessert table. Mainly having a small cake for a cake-cutting photo op.

You are bold, beautiful, and very talented. You will Slay at making your own wedding cake!! I believe in You! xoxo

That sounds so awesome, and a special touch! I bet your guests would love that you made your own cake, and remember that fondly. I would just caution you to think if the money you are saving is worth the time, effort, and mental space that you'll be dedicating to the process of baking, decorating, and transporting your cake. For example: I am a professional dancer and have performed at a lot of weddings, so some guests might expect me to do a performance or have an elaborate choreographed first dance (my fiancé dances too!). We want our wedding to be as stress-free as possible (lol, I can dream!) so I don't want to be responsible for anything but showing up and enjoying our special day. If you think that making your cake won't add any stress to your wedding + the days leading up to it, or if you think that the extra stress will be worth the $ you save, then go for it!

Your idea sounds very personal and lovely as long as you have the time to make it and the ability to get the cake to the reception. We're having our wedding at our house and are planning to make our cake as well. What are your ideas on flavor and look?

    Hi,
My daughter and niece are making our cake and doing our desserts table. They both are pastry chefs. The reason we asked them to do it is we feel it makes it more special and personalized. They both feel honored to do it.
