Make up anxiety!!

Des, on July 13, 2021 at 9:55 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
I am getting married in august and recently had my hair and make up trial. My hair came out exactly how I wanted, my make up however was extremely underwhelming. I do my own make up all the time and always get compliments on it. I figured I’d have a professional do it to save me the stress. She has amazing reviews everywhere, and her Instagram pictures were stunning. I just felt maybe she mostly does brides who like minimal make up? I was clear I wanted a glammed up look. I do a lot of coverage, contour highlight etc, she did the bare minimum coverage (air brush foundation) and I just looked washed out, and while I do have decent skin I could still see pores in my nose and some areas were patchy. My fiancé who isn’t the most detailed guy commented how he wasn’t very impressed and that I do a better job. I sent her a detailed email about more coverage and the parts I wasn’t happy about. She responded immediately and told me she took notes and will add the details I’m looking for. Anyway my wedding is a month out and I’m freaking out. I know it sounds silly but if I don’t love my make up the day of it will ruin my whole day. I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and she sort of just did her own thing… Is it rude of me to send her a YouTube video of what I’m looking for?

I would do another trial if you are that nervous about it. You are not going to feel better unless you know she can execute what you want. I know it’s extra money but in my opinion worth it for peace of mind. If it doesn’t work out, tell her you only would like to contribute with her for hair and that you will look elsewhere for makeup. No hard feelings just not the vibe you were going for. Good luck

You should definitely do another trial with her, don't risk waiting until your wedding day and just hope she gets it right. I did two hair trials until I was 100% happy with the result and I'm so glad I did! good luck!

Thank you! She’s literally super busy, she’s very popular and I doubt she’d have time to fit me in? I’m going to send an email this afternoon to let her know I’m worried and see what she offers. I was planning on attaching another photo of what I want and a YouTube video. I just wasn’t sure if that would be rude? I live in VERY popular wedding tourist spot so finding someone else would be nearly impossible.

It depends what type of YouTube video IMO. If it’s a how to video that explains how to do the look, then yes it will be rude.
If it’s just a video that shows the look in detail, then that’s completely fine.
Also I wanted to say that it’s not silly at all to want to make sure you look and feel your best on your wedding day!!

If I were you I’d bring my makeup bag with me. Have her use your products that you know you love and look good on you. Since you’re good at doing your own makeup, you can always add to it or touch things up to your preference.

I sent about 4 makeup tutorial videos to my makeup artist because I'd already had one disastrous trial with a different artist and I was 99% sure she didn't know Korean beauty trends. I felt bad about it, but at the same time if she's a professional she should make the attempt to understand what the customer wants. In your case, your first trial didn't go well and she didn't listen to you and just did her own thing, so I think you have every right to send her a video of the look you want. I'd just make sure to tip really well at the end if she actually watches it and achieves the result you want. My artist watched all my videos & really listened to me, and I was really happy with my look, so I tipped 35% at the end.

Also I forgot to mention, I really hate airbrush foundation. My first trial was airbrush and I had the same thing happen - it looked like I had freaking sponge paint on my nose, that's how speckley it was! If you're used to traditional makeup I'd ask for that too, mine lasted all day (I wish I knew what setting powder she used) so I don't see any reason to airbrush.
