Make-up Artist

For those that will be using a make-up artist for yourself and your bridesmaids, did you hire a few or did you just hire one?

I hired three. I got my one makeup artist and with the time frame a number of people we had including moms bridesmaid and sister in laws 11 in order to get done by 2 o clock we would need 3 make up and hair stylists if we didn’t want to start by 5 am. Check with your stylist they usually have an artist to person ratio for how much they can do in a given timeframe!

I think this really depends on how many people need to get their make up done & how much time you have allotted for them to do so. I will only be having 4 people getting make up done, so I just hired the one makeup artist.

Find out what your makeup artist needs based on the size of your entourage. They may have a team they work with as need be and not allow other independent makeup artists to be hired. You won't know until you ask.

I hired a team of two makeup artists, since I had a larger group of bridesmaids/myself/my mom/my fiance's mom/etc. Check with the makeup artists you're considering hiring - tell them how many total people will need their makeup done, and they should let you know how many artists they would send. Alternatively, they may need to start doing makeup earlier in the day if you have a large group, so that they can guarantee that everyone's makeup will be done in time.

I have 6 bridesmaids and myself getting makeup done by a makeup artist. I only hired one for all of us. She said it takes her about 30 minutes per person and about an hour for me, the bride. So it was doable and more cost effective for us to only hire one. My venue is in a small town and an hour away from any big city so it was difficult to find a makeup artist that wasn't going to charge a travel fee (or an outrageous travel fee) and did a professional job that was also affordable for my bridesmaids.

I asked her if there was a makeup artist that she worked with for larger parties and didn’t respond to me. I thought maybe she was offended by it.

That is strange and doesn't help you any. Have you already hired her? If not, keep looking to find someone who has no issues answering typical interview questions.

I have 6 bridesmaids as well, and I asked if she would do it on her own and she said it depended on the time frame. I asked if she worked with a 2nd make up artist for large parties and she didn’t message me back. I hope I didn’t offend her.

I asked the same as well but to the salon she works at. They were the ones that suggested a 2nd makeup artist but when we talked to the artist herself, she said she didn't need help. But I can't tell you how many times I've reached out to vendors and got ghosted. It happened too many times to count and it's frustrating. So if it takes her longer than a week or two to reply, move on. You don't have time to wait!

A good make-up artist/company will suggest how many ladies are needed once you tell them how many bridesmaids there are and who is getting what done. ALSO the time of the wedding plays a part. If the wedding is earlier then she might suggest more than 1 person to make sure you guys don't have to get up at 6am for the wedding.

Brides need their beauty sleep, although I'd imagine it would be difficult! Like the night before vacation you can't sleep, EXCITING! LOL

I hired one, but if I have over a certain amount of people getting done, she may bring assistants. The details will get hammered out closer to the date.

We had one. She came early in the morning and had a schedule to follow for each person. If you have a really large bridal party then your MUA might use an assistant

I'm having one MUA, plus whichever assistants she'll bring. She is a MUA that I have known and has done the makeup for my sister's wedding. I don't really see the need to hire two different MUAs.
