Make-up at a mall?

Katy, on August 1, 2019 at 6:35 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 9

Has anyone gotten their makeup done on their wedding day at a Sephora or other department store?

Most professional make-up artists in the Bay are charging $200 which is crazy!

I am not doing this for my wedding but I can tell you about my experiences getting makeup done at Sephora, which I’ve done many many times. A lot of their artists are really good, but it can be super hit or miss. I strongly strongly recommend doing a trial with someone first, telling them exactly what you want with lots of pics, and seeing if you like their work. Then, make sure THAT person is available for your wedding day. That way, you don’t end up with some random person who you may or may not like on the day of. Also pro-tip, makeovers are free if you spend $50 or more, so if you’re planning on doing a trial anyway you can treat yourself to something nice while you get your trial free!!

Agree with all of this advice! I wouldn’t use Sephora for my wedding day because it’s really hit or miss and there’s obviously no contract involved. You can make sure that the artist you like is scheduled that day, but if they call in sick, you have no backup.

I did engagement picture makeup at Sephora and it turned out great. But I agree with the previous comments because it can be hit or miss!

I'd call around or stop by the makeup counters and see if any of their artists freelance on the side! It would probably be less costly and you would have something more predictable.

My BF had her make-up done at Ulta Beauty for her wedding for $30. She looked AMAZING. She has struggled with acne her whole life and her skin looked flawless! She says that was her best purchase for the wedding.

Ikr and that’s the lowest which is only the trial. I called a lot of places and even mobile makeup for makeup is 150 plus 150 for makeup trial. The one thing is that having it done at a department store would they hold and appt for you and will they open the shop early bc the mall usually doesn’t open until 10

I'm also from the bay area and finding a makeup artist was super hard because they are definitely expensive or need a minimum charge. I would suggest looking up artist on Instagram by just using hashtags. Good luck!

MUA in my area are super expensive too and most want a minimum before they’ll book (or you pay their minimum even if your services don’t meet it). There’s nothing even close to where we’re getting married so that’s not an option for me, but I have found it’s cheaper to go to the salon rather than have the MUA come to you if that’s an option. Some of the travel fees I’ve been quoted are like $350 for traveling an hour max- one wanted a hotel room even though she didn’t need to be there until 1pm and would be done by 4pm! Good luck!
