Make your own drink vs shots

Katerina, on January 11, 2020 at 8:52 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 1 2
Hi ladies,

Maybe some Russian or American brides can help me solve this dilemma lol We are having a mixed Russian-American wedding and at a Russian wedding there is no bar. Instead, different bottles of booze are placed on the table so guests can get glasses or wine or shots of liquor (Russian men don’t drink mixed drinks). However, I am torn because I don’t want our American guests to feel left out because they mostly drink mixed drinks (as far as I know). I can’t do an open bar because our Russian guests will not want to get up every time they want to take a shot, so that’s not an option.
So what I was thinking is to have a Make Your Own Bloody Mary or Mimosa table in addition to the bottles on the table... What do you think of this idea?
Thank you!

Hey there, Katerina! Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley smile

This is a great idea. You could also just have a small tended bar where your American guests could use to order drinks, along with having bottles of liquor on the tables which your Russian guests could drink from. Would this work with your budget?

Will the liquors be on ice? You could set it up like bottle service at a club. If you have chilled vodka on the table all you’d need is ice and maybe two mixers. You could also have mini bottles of sodas or juice for guests to take a mix their own drinks.
I’d say cranberry, oj, sprite, coke and maybe tonic and you’d be fine
I would also consider having wine and beer, that’s more common at an American wedding than mixing your own drink I do love a good mimosa or bloody bar though, but only if it’s an afternoon reception
