Thoughts?

Thank you so much for backing me up on this! My guests are the same way, they don’t want me going into debt over this. You’re right, everybody has the right to do the wedding their way!

I wouldn't like this, honestly. I'd rather have a premade sandwich

I would not appreciate this at a wedding, but mostly because I have a gluten allergy. So it’s hard enough to find food that is OK to eat, but deli meat without bread is just gross in my opinion. If you were going to do this, at least make sure nobody on your guestlist has any allergies like me!

Actually, the OP didn’t ask for opinions on having subs in general. She asked about having pre-made subs vs make your own. That question does not require validation.

I think it would depend on what is on the pre-made subs. I’m a pretty picky eater so I might have to pick a lot off and if it had mayo I wouldn’t be able to eat it. So I might learn toward making my own. Just because subs don’t fit with everyone’s weddings doesn’t mean they wouldn’t fit with hers. I’ve seen threads on here where everyone thinks pizza is a great idea. I really don’t see the difference. I’d rather have subs than pizza at a wedding.

So we do this for my kids birthday parties. We have a local place that we get amazing deals on lunchmeat/cheeses and i pay roughly $100 on just meats and cheeses( for variety) to feed 50 people. Premade trays would be cheaper (we don’t do it because so many people are picky). It also is time consuming while everyone goes through the line selecting their chosen toppings. It would take people some time to make it through that type of line at a wedding. If you’re dead set on doing this I would purchase premade trays and make sure you have plenty of fridge space at the reception hall to keep them cool.

Just so y’all all know, I forgot to put this in my original post. This was only going to be a small part of the wedding. It was going to be for people who didn’t like what else I was serving. There was going to be other food.

^^ what's the other food OP?

I wouldn't be thrilled to eat sandwiches for a wedding, but as long as you keep everything on the same scale (for example, don't have a super expensive ball gown and high end new shoes and serve me sandwiches, don't have a super expensive venue and the most rare flowers in abundance and serve me sandwiches) I would be okay with that. The whole event has to have a balance if you know what I mean - just go with the pre-made ones tho: I would rather pick out things I don't like from a sandwich that came ready from a place with professional cooks and a sanitary kitchen, than to build my own sandwich with ingredients that might have been exposed for a while or touched by others.

On the "other food" note be careful with what you choose, especially if you are making yourself. Food temperature is very important and to guarantee that nothing will go wrong you will need a trained person "watching over" the food the whole time, which means if you have a loved one doing your food, that person will not be able to enjoy the party but rather babysit the dinner.

If you are on a limited budget, cut your guest list, check BBQ food (caterers) and places like Olive Garden. They usually come out cheaper then buying all ingredients, cooking yourself, watching over the food and then being liable if anyone gets sick from it.

    Good luck!

Haven’t decided on the exact food yet but it would be catering through a company that works with along side the venue. The venue doesn’t require you to use the company, we just are.

We were going to go through a company that works along side with our venue, haven’t quite decided what I want on the menu yet. But the company we’re going through offers flowers for bride, and 3 bridesmaids, groom and 3 groomsmen, flower and decor for the ceremony and reception, with linens and silverware and staff and a 2 tier cake for starting at $2,700. We’re going to diy the containers for the centerpieces and table runners. Bought my dress for $150 and it included also the crinoline skirt, veil and tiara.

If I had to choose between making my own sub and having it made for me, I'd prefer to have it made. So what if I have to pick tomatoes and onions off. I wouldn't want self-catering. I'd refuse to it--which is snobby at all. I just prefer not to get food poisoning.

I totally understand that! I think I just may give the guests the menu and if they don’t like it,I’ll ask if they want a sandwich as a substiute and go from there! Maybe just order a couple custom to the people who don’t want what’s on the menu.

I second this. I have celiac’s disease (aka no gluten). If I was at a wedding with a sub platter, even if there was a separate gluten free sandwich available for me, I wouldn’t trust that there wasn’t cross contamination.

My main entree will be a meat and 2 sides and a roll, the sandwich is just a option. I’m going ask if there is any food allergies whenever I send out invites, that way I can accommodate to that certain person’s allergy. Like,I’m not having anything with nuts, because my FSIL is highly allergic to most nuts.

Another possibility would be to have two or three entree options (one vegetarian and maybe a different type of meat) to give people choices. I'm not sure if you already considered having multiple entree choices and there is a reason you went with subs instead?

My aunt just wanted to help in some way and she came up with that,so I wanted it to be a possibility, but I’ll see how much extra it is to add another entree 😊!

That's very sweet of her, but there's many other areas your aunt can help in that don't involve food. She could help with favors, help with stuffing envelopes, etc. Just think about other areas you could use help with and accept her offer to help in that area.
