Make your own wedding directional sign

Andrea, on May 25, 2012 at 11:27 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 8

DH and I were so busy before the wedding that I didn't have a chance to post some of our DIY projects. We were so close to buying a wooden directional sign off of Etsy, but we were nervous that it wouldn't arrive in time, so we decided to make one ourselves. I'm so glad that we did. After shipping, we would've spent $75-$100 for one sign. We maybe spent $10, max.

Here's how we did it. We bought a wood wine box at a store near us for $4, and we had another leftover piece of wood that we could use for the backing. After we removed the nails from the wine box, we had perfect sized pieces for the directional pieces. We then took a thick white paint pen (we bought it at Michael's for $4 or $5 with a coupon) and wrote "wedding" and drew an arrow. While the paint was drying, we cut an angle into the back piece so that we could stick it into the ground. After the paint dried, we nailed the pieces to the back piece. Bam! Done. It cost hardly anything, and it was so easy!

I have also been planning on making my own. I will probably see if my dad has any scrap wood, if not I will see what the lumber yard and hardware stores have. I think you can get small scrap pieces for pretty cheap. The etsy signs ae cute, but not worth the $$, IMO

Looks great. We are doing something similar as well.. But not worth the money on etsy for sure.

Love this! I also want to make something similar to this for our wedding. I agree it must be reasonably priced because you will never need them again.

Awesome! Since our ceremony/reception are at our place this will be great at directing guests to the back lawn. Thanks so much for sharing!

Where do you get a "wine box" from? And what is it exactly is it? lol. I LOVE this, b.t.w. and I'm an avid DIY-er. Thanks for the share.

The wine boxes are wooden boxes/crates that hold 6-12 bottles of wine. Any place that sells wine typically receives their bottles in these boxes. I know for sure that Total Wine sells them. I think that BevMo may, too.

We also used wine boxes to create our card box and to display our cake and cupcakes.
