Makeup Artist Canceled

Blair, on May 7, 2021 at 10:24 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14

So I'm 28 days away from my wedding day and my makeup artist just canceled. My wedding is in a small town so I don't have a lot of people to choose from. She was the only one I knew in the area. I know most people will say just do it yourself, but I didn't want to have to try to do that on my big day. I wanted to try to be as stress free as possible.

I would read your contract to see if there is a clause in it that talks about what happens if she cancels. Sometimes there will be a clause that states that she is then responsible to find you a replacement.

Did you sign a contract? I agree with PP, I would see if there is anything you can do.

We are family so there wasn't a contract. I already asked if she knew someone else and she said no.

Unfortunately, this is why people don't recommend using family or not having a contract. My advice would be a local salon or finding an artist that can travel from a neighboring town to do your makeup.

It's so many rules to wedding planning. I hire her all the time to do my makeup for all my important events so I did not see the need in a contract. Her boss text her about a mandatory workshop the weekend of my wedding. I don't know or trust anyone else in the area so I'll probably just end up doing it myself.

You could research other makeup artists and see if you could schedule a trial to make sure you like how it turns out. Personally, I wouldn't want the added stress of doing my own makeup on my wedding day.

Are there any larger cities nearby (maybe in a 50-mile radius)? If so, you may be able to find someone that hopefully doesn't have too expensive of a travel fee!

I'd start reaching out to other vendors ASAP, and make sure to get a contract in place with this one. If you can't find anyone in your town, then look at neighboring towns/cities and try to find someone who can travel to you

Go to a salon in a neighboring city. An Ulta or Sephora may be able to do this. Go on Yelp and start checking availability and make sure to get a contract

I would look at your venue & other local venue’s tagged images on Instagram. Some times makeup artists will tag venues to show their work. I would also see if there’s local businesses where makeup artists are in training for their certification. Maybe do a trial with them? Best of luck!

Can you have another friend or family member do it for you?

Do you happen to have a friend/family member &/or bridesmaid that always does their makeup nicely? Perhaps someone coming to the wedding that would be willing to watch some YouTube tutorials to help you out so all the stress doesn't land on you for the big day??

Her boss sounds like a jerk. Is there no option for her to do the workshop another time? Surely the boss would let her off the hook if she was "in" a wedding or had some other major event happening on that day. Your wedding was on the books first.
