Makeup Artist Cost

Hey, I booked a girl to do my makeup for my wedding. She's the sister of one of my bridesmaids and super great at what she does. So we are booked and good to go, I just told her to let me know how much $$ she wants. She hasn't told me.

So I'm just curious, what are you ladies paying. What should I expect to pay? She's not a pro. But I absolutely want to make sure she is fairly compensated. Even if she chooses not to charge, I want to pay her.

I am paying $90 pp for makeup not including tip. All quotes I received were between $80-$120. Since she's not a pro I think $40-60 pp would be reasonable? I am just guessing though.

My makeup is $95 for me and $75 for BMs, mothers, etc. That's pretty average in my area.

I spoke with several different makeup artists and hairstyles before selecting one. We went with the 2nd cheapest. I liked them the best out of everyone we talked to. I have included the breakdown below. None of the costs include a tip, but do include tax.

    Bride's Makeup - $85.00

    Bridesmaids/Mother of Bride - $65.00

    Flower Girls - $35.00+

Application of false lashes - $20.00

My hair and makeup is $180 I think. My BM makeup is $70 per girl for just makeup.

Here's the way I see it - if she were a professional, you would pay her a professional rate. Since she is not, you should pay her something fair, but a little less. I wouldn't expect to get paid the same amount of money for modeling clothes as a model would, because I'm not a professional model. Or I wouldn't charge an arm and a leg if I baked a cake because I'm not a professional baker.

People who do hair and makeup for a living went to school for it and paid a LOT of money to get certified. They are sanitary and they guarantee their work. That's what you're paying for. I think it's fantastic that you want to pay her something fair. If she doesn't give you a price point, just choose something middle ground - less than what a professional makes but more than what you'd pay your mom. LOL.
