Makeup artist timeline??

Jada, on December 5, 2022 at 2:04 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
Help! I am getting married December 31st at 6:30pm. My makeup artist asked me what time she should arrive. What time would be appropriate? I am doing my own makeup but a couple of my bridesmaids will be having their hair and makeup done. I have no idea what time! Please help!

You will need to share whether you will do photos before the wedding ceremony. Has the makeup artist given you the time needed to work with each person?

Generally I've seen the artist be the one to tell you that... I would inform her of what time you all have to be absolutely 100% done by and see what time she needs from there

When I built my timeline, I started with ceremony time. Then I talked with my photographer about how long he thought pics would be beforehand (we did a first look). Factoring that time and time to be tucked away so guests don't see us before the ceremony, I set my picture start time. I had us arriving at the venue about 30 minutes prior to that. Then added in travel time. Then I gave about a 30 minute window just in case. That determined my "ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE DONE TIME". My hair/makeup artists then determined what time they'd arrive based on that. So this is what my timeline looked like

    6:45 AM Hair/makeup arrival/setup

    7:00 AM Hair/makeup start

11:00 AM Photographer arrival - getting ready pics

    12:00 PM Get dressed

    12:30 PM Leave for venue

    1:30 PM arrive at venue

2:00 PM First look and family/wedding party pics

4:15 PM tuck away in bridal suite

    5:00 PM ceremony

Some people will have general numbers for hair stylists and makeup per person. It may be 30 for hair and 45 makeup (or reverse of that). But if you work out with the photographer and day-of-wedding person, you get their recommended time for the pre-ceremony photos including the first look. Also, you did not state whether the makeup and hair would be done onsite. It sounds like you are preparing onsite.

This was how we determined the timeline for our HMUA too. I'd just add to tell your HMUA how many services you'll need (ex. 3 people for makeup, 6 for hair) so they can plan accordingly.

At the very latest, 5 pm should work. That way she'll have enough time to set up and work

It depends how many bridesmaids you have and is it one makeup artist/hair stylist?

Typically each bridesmaid will be about 30 min hair and 30 min makeup and if you have two people one for make up and one for hair. If it's one person to do both then roughly an hour for each bridesmaid. If your ceremony is around 6:30pm then you are probably going to have your photographer/videographer start with getting ready photos around 4pm and first look and wedding party photos around 5-5:30pm. Then, line up around 6:10-6:15pm and sitting your guests to prepare to start from 6:15-6:30pm.

I was a day-of wedding planner assistant and helped work with managing wedding timelines.

The makeup artist should be giving you a timeline as that is part of their duties as a vendor. They know based on your ceremony (or first look) start time how long it will take given the number of people they are working on. The same goes for the hairdresser and photographer. This is their job to provide you with a timeline.
