Makeup artist vs Doing it yourself?

What is everyone’s opinion on paying for a makeup artist vs doing your own makeup? It would be nice not to have to worry about doing it myself but is it worth the money? I caved and got a makeup artist. $100-150 sounds about average.

I think it’s worth it, I don’t want to worry on my wedding day. It’ll be easier for someone else to do it, I had my trial already and LOVED how she did my makeup. Also, I have no idea how false lashes work so thankfully I will have a pro do it for me.

For me, totally worth the money to get it done. I’ve had my makeup done on rare occasions and it makes such a big difference in person and photos. But I usually don’t wear much makeup and what I do isn’t great for pics.

I think it just depends on you! I normally don't wear make up at all and when I try it comes out horrible so I decided to go ahead and make room so I could hire a MUP and a hair person!

Omg! I would happily pay someone else to do it! I want the convenience of not doing it but I had my trial and absolutely hated the feeling of all that foundation. I'm honestly very comfortable doing my makeup so I figured it would be better if I just do it myself. However, I absolutely think it's worth having someone else do it for you. Stress free pampering on the day of.

I would rather a MUA myself, but I'm running on a really really small budget so I'm thinking I'll just use the two months I have until the wedding to learn one look as well as I can. Because even the cheapest hair and makeup I could find were out of my budget and I wouldn't have been able to afford a trial at all even if I sacrificed something else to get the artist. (That something probably would have been somewhere in the reception, since I'm already bare bonesing the ceremony, and I wasn't willing to give up the reception for something I can theoretically do myself. We'll see how I feel after a month of practice lol.)

My MUA is charging the same, $125 for trial and $250 for bride the day of. I still haven't signed the contract to officially book her for my wedding, so I'm going to decide how I feel after the trial. She comes highly recommended from my venue & friends so I'm pretty certain I'll end up booking her. Did you tip for the trial, or just tip more the day of? Can't find out the proper etiquette for this!

If I remember correctly, I tipped on the day of the trial because I hadn’t booked for my wedding yet. I’ll also be tipping for my wedding day. I think if I had a contract for the wedding the day of the trial, I’d only tip on the wedding day.
