Makeup artists asap contracts

Kristin, on January 9, 2020 at 11:23 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5
Hi All,
I reached out to a local makeup artist for my wedding day makeup which is 10/24/20. I’m getting married out of state. I was told the deposit is $200 however before I give them a check, this artists wants all the details now and asap. She wants how many people for hair and makeup and needs to know the ending time. I said we’re still in the planning stages. 1 of my bridesmaids lives in Thailand, another was unsure if she can make the financial commitment and we’re still trying to find a Catholic Church (they require a lot of things to be done before they can confirm our date). Has anyone not been able to reserve their date like this? I figured I can at least put down the deposit but she wants all the details asap. I don’t know them yet and I don’t want to force my 1 bridesmaid to make a decision. I’m planning from out of state too so this just adds to the stress!

I got married in a Catholic Church too and I get what you mean when you say they require a lot of things. Is this the only make-up artist you reached out to? I didn’t find mine until 4 months before my wedding and she did not ask me for a deposit; she only needed my wedding date and an approximate number of people who were also getting their hair and make-up done. It ended up just being me. My bridesmaids and MOH got theirs done elsewhere. She did my hair and make-up for $250.

I just booked my hair and makeup appointment from out of state also. They did need all that same info, I think it's just so they book enough time and people to get everyone done.

Also planning out of state. Well back to my home state. And my MUA asked the same questions. I believe it's because maybe she can see if she can fit another wedding on the same day? My wedding is on a Saturday so I know that can be popular. I just estimated to what it could be then not. I to am having a Catholic Church wedding and I know they tend to start earlier. So I estimated an early start to an early finish. (Start at 7:30 end at 12:30).

We are also getting married in October and out of state. My H/MUA’s deposit was $60. She needed to know the date, the time I needed to be done by, the location and the number of people (and what services they needed). However we’re not having a BP so it’s just me and the total for hair, makeup and travel fee is $250.

I understand the need for the MUA to have that info. Otherwise they can’t properly schedule any other weddings. So hopefully you get the church squared away soon and can move forward with the rest of the planning to reduce your stress.

It sounds like she's trying to fit more than one wedding into the same day. I would really get clear confirmation that she will be available to you on the day, at the time(s) you need her. You don't want to get locked into a contract, only to find out that she's going to rush through your hair and makeup because she's got another job to get to.

If she can't reserve the day for just you (and your wedding party), I would look for someone else who can.
