Makeup & Hair Artist Dilemma

I was having trouble finding someone to do my hair & makeup and one of my bridesmaids gave me the info of two ladies who did makeup & hair in a wedding she was in. I went to that wedding and remembered everyone’s makeup & hair looking nice. The best part is they only charge $85 for both AND they come to you.

So of course I scheduled a trial, only $40 for the trial. It is this Saturday. I happened to run across their instagram the other day and let’s say I was not impressed with what I saw.. The face makeup looks good from what I can tell but the eye makeup they have posted (only a few looks, seems they’re new in the industry) look like it was done by a middle schooler!! So needless to say I’m incredibly nervous.
I want to follow through with the trial because if I do like it it’s definitely a steal. I’m nervous it won’t look good, I’ll be out $40 and have to spend even more money on another trial and way more on the actual wedding day! 😩

Take a look at other Instagram beauticians in your area whose work you like better. Honestly if you are that apprehensive based on their portfolio, follow your gut and pass on them. Just because things are low priced doesn't make them a good value.

If they are cheap and don't look great, I would assume they won't perform well...but you can give it a shot!

That's an amazing price! I paid $230 for my hair and makeup trial and ended up hating it and not even booking them. I'd say try it out just to see because you really could be impressed! Make sure to be specific and bring photos so there's little room for interpretation error! Please update us with photos

I agree! It seems like a smaller risk to take since it's a trial, plus it's hard for new people in the industry to get jobs, so this could be mutually beneficial. Give it a shot

$40 for a trial is insanely cheap. Get the trial, if you don’t like it, oh well. It’s only $40. You might like the way they do your makeup because you’ll be requesting a specific look.

I mean for $40, what do you really have to lose? I'd take the risk. Maybe the photos you saw were exactly the style that particular bride was looking for. Just take inspiration photos of what you're looking for. If they are unable to replicate that, then you'll know - and that's really the goal of a trial!

$40 is a smoking deal! Really, what do you have to lose? Make sure you take your inspiration photos with you & don’t be afraid to speak up if you don’t like something.

Def. go to the trial if it's only $40! That's a steal and you'll know for sure whether you like their work or not! Make sure to bring photos of what you're wanting and be very specific. Be honest with them as well.

In case anyone was curious about how it went... It was soooo bad!! The hair wasn’t horrible, but the makeup was laughable. The pictures don’t even do it justice, there were spots missed, not blended, lashes were droopy, it was a MESS lol. At least I gave it a shot 😅
