Makeup or no makeup

Allie, on September 23, 2020 at 3:26 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14

Hello, I would LOVE some advice. I originally wanted to get both my hair and makeup done for my wedding, however recently people have been telling me it is better to do it myself because I know I will like it and I know how I want myself to look on my wedding day.. PLEASE HELP. I just am unsure on what to do. I am getting married May 22, 2021 and have NO IDEA what to do.

I personally would like someone else to do it. I can’t imagine the pressure on that day. You can always tell your MUA of what you want and get a trial.

I’m great at applying my makeup & when I told others I was gonna have it professionally done on my wedding day, I met with “why are you gonna do that?” . I’m getting as much off my plate on the day of as possible. It’s already going to be stressful- why add more to it?

If you like the way you apply your makeup, I say do it yourself! But if you can find a professional who does it the way you like, then I'd go that route for the sake of sitting back and getting pampered Smiley smile

Don’t get your makeup done! I haaaaate wedding makeup. No one EVER looks like themselves. It’s such a pet peeve of mine. If you’re on the fencethough I would definitely say just do a trial and that’ll help you make your decision

I say get a trial done before you decide either way. It doesn’t even have to be the person you will hire for sure. Just go have your makeup done as a trial for your wedding and see how that works for you.
Personally the people saying don’t have your makeup done are people that are good at doing their own makeup. I. Am. Not. I would have no idea how to do it and the YouTube videos are not going to help me become an expert to do my own wedding makeup. So please try it out before you decide either way. Good luck!

I would rather have a professional because they use products that don't fade or look dull in pictures. As long there is clear communication on the look you want and the opportunity for a second trial if need be, a professional makeup artist is the way to go for a once in a lifetime event.

I think bridal make up is different from every day make up (unless you are just a very glam individual lol). The makeup artists are putting makeup on you that will show through a certain way in photographs and real life (almost like stage make up). Doing a makeup trial prior to the wedding to work out the look is super common and something you can do to make sure you and the artist are on the same page. I never wear makeup so I knew I needed a professional lol. No amount of YouTube would work for me.

I would have it done professionally unless you are a great makeup artist yourself. Makeup artist typically have the best long lasting make up and know how to ale your makeup stand out in photos so you don’t look washed out.
Doing a hair and makeup trial is the best way to make sure your HMUA does everything exactly how you want it.

If it is in the budget, I say splurge for the makeup. I am not good at makeup, so I was going to get it professionally done. But since we are having a minimony first, without a professional photographer, I decided I'd have my BMs help me that day. It should be a lower stress day since it won't be a full day of wedding activities, just ceremony and dinner, so I was comfortable just having them do it. But next year for the big wedding, I'll get a trial or two to see what I like and try to get a professional to do it the day of.

My personal opinion...please don't do it yourself unless your a pro at it. I want to be pampered that day! Have a whole team of folks there for us, how often do we get to do that...NEVERRRRR! Just take your time and do your research before selecting a stylist/MUA. Don't hire just anybody and sign a contract without even doing a trial. Do as many trials as needed to make sure they get what you want. I can't imagine trying to do my own hair and makeup on my special day. I'm no pro and I'd be stressed.

I really think it depends on your preferences.. If you like the way you normally do your makeup and don’t care for heavier/extra makeup on your wedding day then it wouldn’t be worth it to me. I think what’s nice about getting your makeup professionally done is getting something you normally wouldn’t do or don’t feel comfortable with doing yourself, but you want for your look. It also takes some stress and pressure off of yourself, especially if you aren’t confident in your own makeup application skills.

I would not let others tell you what to do - if you like it the best just as you do it yourself, then do it yourself, if you want someone else do it then let someone else do it for you. It totally depends on what you want, not on what others tell you to do

Practice on yourself what you would like, time how long it takes, remember if you feel stressed/anxious doing it, etc... if you feel like you're okay with doing it all over again on the day of your wedding, go for it! Helps save money too.

I personally like the feeling of someone else doing it for me, just makes me feel relaxed and pampered, but that's just me.
