MAKEUP PRICE??!?

ACM123, on January 7, 2010 at 10:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

I am not very good with makeup, so DIY is out of the question.

I have gone to a couple different places, but I have no idea what a good price is. I have four lovely ladies in my wedding party, 5 with myself.

Any ideas on what to look for and what to do?

Should the makeup be done on location?

I would check with whoever is doing your hair if your having it done... often times they are pretty good at doing makeup also but just dont do it normally... maybe they'll throw it in for free!

You can also ask around for a Mary Kay consultant. They are usually well-trained, will come to you and offer free consultations. We have a few in my area that have done hundreds of bridal parties over the last 10 years or so and they charge about $40 per person. You can also ask around with your family and friends if they know of anyone. Last option is to peruse the department store cosmetic counters and have a few makeovers. If there's someone who you like and their makeover looks good on you, you can ask if they'd be willing to do your wedding.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you both. The lady who is doing my hair does not do makeup. As for Mary Kay consultant, that sounds great. I had a couple people from M.A.C. say they would pick it up as freelance work, but the price was a lot. There have been some others, but I am not sure what I should be looking for (price range).

    Hi kcsacm,

Makeup prices will range based on your location, experience of the artist, and type of makeup being applied. Airbrush makeup will always cost a bit more than traditional makeup. Many makeup artists will provide packages for brides and their parties (the larger the party, the bigger the discount). But really, it can range anywhere from $50-$100 per person. As already mentioned, there are many factors to consider. Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you do a trial with the artist. This should be done anywhere from 3 months to one month prior to the wedding date. Take pictures after the trial to insure that it looks the way you want it to look for your special day. Also, if possible, do the trial early in the morning, so that you can see how the makeup holds up and transitions from day to evening. Let your makeup artist know what your budget is and see if he/she will work with you to help you stay within it.

Best of luck and many blessings!

    Carmen

My MOH is getting married the 17th, and the makeup artist is asking for $45, and is using MAC. I'm not sure if that's a lot, but it didn't seem it to me. I haven't looked into makeup artists for my wedding yet, but maybe I'll use her.

You can try going to a department store makeup counter (Macy's/Chanel/Clinque). We used Chanel for a wedding I was in over the summer, you had to buy 2 products but then they did the makeup for free.

I'm paying $30 to get my makeup done at the salon I'm getting my hair done at. I thought that was a reasonable price.

    I have one more question...

What is better, regular makeup or having it airbrushed?

    Thanks again

It depends on airbrush or regular..my mua said that airbrush lasts longer and it is consistant color...she said she would use that for me due to my wanting to cover some of my tats...but she would use regular mac makeup for my girls because they have good skin and it would work better for them...

Okay...so this sounds a little crazy, but I just had a friend do it with her wedding party, and it turned out great. The best part is its FREE!! Many department stores have makeup centers and will do makeup for free. This is to allow you to test their products. You and your bridal party could go there and have them do your makeup before the ceremony.

I myself have never done this but a friend just did it and had no trouble at all with it.

    Kcsacm,

Congratulations! And to all that are getting married.

As a Professional Makeup Artist, I definetly can understand that savings are a big deal on your event day. I just want to offer an advice: when going to a Dept Store or having a BC or MK consultation, etc, be aware that most of the personnel are in sales. Some might have an amazing talent when it comes to makeup, but some might have no idea.

Most MUA's are willing to work with your budget. Always remember, your wedding pictures ARE gonna be forever. And, it is worth it to pay a Pro Artist, specially if it's Airbrush makeup.

    Good luck!

Just to add to DermaGem's comment... I'd also keep in mind that many retail-grade foundations have high amounts of titanium dioxide in them (an all natural sunscreen and ingredient used to lighten the color) which is very reactive with flash photography. It's essentially a metal, and light bounces off metal. A professional is going to not only apply is correctly, but they are going to use products designed to make you look fabulous in PERSON and IN PICTURES. There is a difference. Not to mention the quality is going to determine how long the makeup lasts. For example, some brides I've airbrushed have commented that the next day at the airport the makeup still looked flawless. (I do NOT recommend going to bed with makeup on. Just thought it was an effective example.)
