Makeup trial fail

SO, let me give a little back story..Sorry if it’s long. first I am a makeup artist, I know makeup, I love makeup. I follow this guy on Instagram who has 145k followers, he teaches classes, etc. I was excited to get my makeup done by him. I paid in full $100 for my trial, the day before I ask him if we are still good for our date, & he says “ remind me again” so I remind him & he asks if I had paid already I said yes. (you should know all this??) The day if I message him asking if we can push it back 30 min if not it’s okay, he said no & I message him back 15 min later and say okay that’s fine I’m on my way I’ll be there 5 min before & he says oh I thought you wanted to cancel so I started on someone. I never said anything about canceling. Anyways, we schedule for this past Saturday, I message him Monday ask I we are still okay, he asks me to remind him again & asks if I paid, again... I get to the location the day of & ask where to park, he says “ are you here for an appointment?” WTH??? Yes..
so I tell him, appointment is at 1, I got there at 12:50, I wait for him until 1:10. Some other girls had an appointment at 1 also for a class, one girl said he canceled on her twice. So I was his “model” that day.

now to the makeup- I hated it. I felt like he rushed it and also maybe because I do makeup we have different techniques & preferences. My contour wasn’t blended, my blush looks like I’m bruised, my eyebrows were uneven. I was SO disappointed.. Safe to say I’m not booking him & I might just do it myself!

    I'm so sorry he gave you such a headache about it all! I had 2 makeup trials and really wasn't a fan of either so I am also doing my makeup myself. You know your face better than anyone!

    Wow that is so unprofessional! Even if the makeup looked great I still wouldn't go with someone that unprofessional. You'd probably be way better off just doing it yourself! Especially since you're a makeup artist anyway.

    So annoying. And sorry you went through that. Hopefully you find someone better or I think doing it yourself is TOTALLY acceptable!

    That's what I told my Fh, if I like it I'm still not going with him. I can't have him not show up because he forgets. I just wanted to be able to relax and not stress doing my own and get pampered lol but I guess i'd rather do it myself than look like that!

    The contouring - did he not even blend? And I see what you mean about your brows being two different shapes.

    This is why I did my own makeup; the only person I can fault is myself. I've never been happy when other people did mine.

    Ugh that stinks. I had 2 failed makeup trials too and was so happy I just ended up doing my own makeup. At least you had a trial and weren't stuck with him on your wedding day!

    This is my biggest fear of paying someone to do my makeup. I love makeup, I do my own makeup when i go out places. I've gone to Sephora and MAC and everytime I left my makeup looked ridiculous. I can't believe he did that. My problem is I don't want to have the stress on my wedding day of doing my own makeup.

    I’m sorry your experience was so terrible and unprofessional. My first makeup trial was so bad that I was going to do my own makeup on my wedding day. But I didn’t want the added stress and gave someone else an opportunity, and I’m so glad I did. She did a wonderful job.

    Maybe you can get recommendations for another mua. Or like the others have said, you can do your own. Good luck, hopefully it all works out.

    Wow how unprofessional! I would leave reviews all over his review pages to warn other clients. Your eye shadow looks good to me but I can tell the eyebrows are uneven and the contour looks like a teenager who is barely learning to apply makeup did it. I would not trust him to do my makeup ever again. You are better off doing your own makeup or giving someone else a chance. Good luck

    I don't want the added stress either.

    There are some others I have in mind, I just don't want to keep spending $100 and not liking them!

    I get it, I did not want to hand over $100 after my first trial either, and then I tipped her, because how could I not? Ugh. But my second trial, it was either $100 for the trial if you didn’t book her, or you pay a $50 deposit that applies towards the work on your wedding day. And fortunately, it worked out for me.

    That's some horrible customer service. I hope you go with someone else and dont give him another shot. He sounds like the type of guy who would cancel on you or forget about you on your wedding day.

    I am so sorry you had to deal with that frustration! I had a similar experience as far as hating my makeup. I went back and forth between having a makeup artist do it and doing it myself. I decided to book a trial with a highly recommended artist to help make my decision. She was lovely to work with but I hated the makeup in the end. I just didn’t feel like myself. So long story short I will also be doing it myself. Sometimes it’s just better that way. If you are used to doing your makeup the way you like it, you’re probably better off doing it yourself!

    Oh my gosh I’m so sorry it’s really hard to trust people sadly, at least it wasn’t your wedding day that he did all of this!! I’m having one of my friends do mine ❤️
