Makeup trial fail

SO, let me give a little back story..Sorry if it’s long. first I am a makeup artist, I know makeup, I love makeup. SO, let me give a little back story..Sorry if it’s long. first I am a makeup artist, I know makeup, I love makeup. I follow this guy on Instagram who has 145k followers, he teaches classes, etc. I was excited to get my makeup done by him. I paid in full $100 for my trial, the day before I ask him if we are still good for our date, & he says “ remind me again” so I remind him & he asks if I had paid already I said yes. (you should know all this??) The day if I message him asking if we can push it back 30 min if not it’s okay, he said no & I message him back 15 min later and say okay that’s fine I’m on my way I’ll be there 5 min before & he says oh I thought you wanted to cancel so I started on someone. I never said anything about canceling. Anyways, we schedule for this past Saturday, I message him Monday ask I we are still okay, he asks me to remind him again & asks if I paid, again... I get to the location the day of & ask where to park, he says “ are you here for an appointment?” WTH??? Yes..
so I tell him, appointment is at 1, I got there at 12:50, I wait for him until 1:10. Some other girls had an appointment at 1 also for a class, one girl said he canceled on her twice. So I was his “model” that day.

now to the makeup- I hated it. I felt like he rushed it and also maybe because I do makeup we have different techniques & preferences. My contour wasn’t blended, my blush looks like I’m bruised, my eyebrows were uneven. I was SO disappointed.. Safe to say I’m not booking him & I might just do it myself!

    Lol exactly. My best friends bf said " oh wow he didn't even blend" If a guy who knows nothing about makeup can see that, there is a problem lol

    I honestly felt bad that I didn’t like my artist’s work because she’s an artist and many people love her work. But I just didn’t. My one word to describe her look on me was “messy”

    OMG NO way!! I am not a professional but invest hours learning from others and buying my own products and do trial and error on myself to continue learning. i would not be happy at all with his lack of organization, using you as a last minute resort for his issue when you were there for something important and then doing this to you. So glad you can find another solution before your big day!

    I'm so sorry! I had to do two trials before I found the artist I went with, I'm super picky. I'd look at Wedding Wire for reviews too, to make sure they have great customer service.

    Hahaha at least you will have a funny story to share. Definetly think you should tenure him and share your experience to other brides to be. I’m wondering how he got all those followers and the opportunity to teach lol

    I'm so sorry that you had to pay $100 for that. I wouldn't book with him even if you loved it - he just seems so unprofessional and you don't need that added stress. I think you should leave him a bad review and post your pictures. Do you think you'll do another trial with someone else or will you just do your own make up?

    That makeup looks terrible! What a shame. I'm so very sorry. I will say that people get sucked in by makeup that looks pretty on you tube and Instagram which does not always translate to real life.

    THIS. I literally wear three products and I can tell several things are wrong here. WHEW.

    On top of that he was completely unprofessional. I am so sorry you're out $100.

    Sooo unprofessional! Especially if you're an artist. You can blend your shadow and your contour better than that. How frustrating!

    I have to be honest and I don't mean to sound rude but that looks horrible. I would never think that makeup application was done by a professional. On top of that, he's extremely unprofessional. If you feel you can do your own makeup without feeling stressed about it (wedding day jitters) then go for it, or find someone else who has good reviews from real brides, not just a bunch of YouTube followers

    I guarantee you can do your make up better than he did by yourself!
    That isn't well done at all, in fact it looks unfinished.
    I feel for you! Good luck finding something that is a perfect fit for you.

    OMG this is my nightmare. I'm glad you learned at a trial though, and dodged the bullet for your wedding day! My 5 year old niece could probably do better. Underneath all that makeup, you are super pretty so I'm sure you will look stunning once you get someone to do it right (or yourself!)

    So I ended up messaging him VERY politely saying I didn't like it but I thought I would have loved it because his work on Instagram. I posted pics of the makeup on my IG story ( not tagging him or saying his name ) and he looked at it and said I blasted him and started calling me ugly names. I still didnt say anything ugly back, so I posted it on Facebook along with my makeup pics and now it has over 800 shares. Apparently he is a scam artist in my area, he takes young girls money. He teaches classes for 2k, gets their money & blocks them. What a shame. I didn't look him up on yelp because I never use that, but he has horrible reviews.


    SO advice- YELP it, GOOGLE it, do all the RESEARCH so you don't end up like me lol

    I think your first red flag was when he said "remind him again", then he can't remember if you paid him 😐🙅🏽. Then it sounds like he used you for a class session like nooo, you should have had a private session (just the two of you). I definitely see that your makeup is not blending...like he just forgot about the side of your face. I would have been hot, I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience with a "professional".

    I was so hesitant to go because he kept saying that, I had in my my mind I wasnt going to book him because I can't have someone forgetting about me. His work on IG looks good I still wanted him to do it, it was just overall a bad experience with him. Come to find out a LOTT of people have bad times with him as well.

    Wow... You could do a better job yourself! Horrible contour on the cheeks and forehead. I do like the colors he chose for the eyes but it looks sloppy. I would ask for my money back. Extremely unprofessional...

    I would have been done after he asked when the time was and if I paid. You should care enough about your brand to ensure you are professional.
