Makeup trial

Can you narrow down a couple favorites? I’m going to trust my HMUA to help since I’m not great with make up and I know it won’t necessarily look the same on me as it does on the model. Doing engagement pictures after does put a lot of pressure on doing something you like, but you hired this person for a reason and obviously like their work! Make sure you have pictures of your outfit(s) and the location for pictures if possible that way you two can keep those in mind. Good luck!

Truthfully I don’t know much about the artist- she works in the salon where I’m getting my hair done and came highly recommended. My dress for pics is simple & black, and most people in town have been to our location for pics. So we have to do something that’ll look good with black for the pics and good with white (er, ivory) for the wedding. Gee, not a tall order at all. Sigh.

Black and simple sounds like it would be a good thing, if you wanted to use your wedding colors you know it won’t clash with black. I think just showing the eyes should be enough! I think you can give her a more general idea of what you want for the face just by describing what you want if you haven't seen pictures (i.e. dewy/glowy, matte, contoured, or blushing/lightly highlighted).

One thing I realized about Pinterest is that it's important to look at each picture one-by-one and try to determine what you like and don't like. It can be helpful for a makeup artist if you can point that out. For instance, saying, "I like the shape of the eyeliner, but that eyeshadow is too orangey for me."

I think there's ultimately a level of trust too you have to put in your makeup artist. When I looked in the mirror after mine had finished. I wasn't initially in love, but I think that had something to do with being in shock over having my makeup done a little differently than I usually would. After sitting in it for a while and getting my hair done to match, I realized that it looked great and fulfilled my wishes.

On another note, you could ask for more definition in the crease color if you want to avoid being too natural, but don't want to look too dramatic.

So I did my trial! I didn’t get the mua that’ll be doing my makeup for the wedding. There was some scheduling problem so I got the pregnant mua who will be on maternity leave when I get married. They took pictures though, and she said she would write down everything she did so the other artist could follow it.

Pic is with wedding jewelry & hair, obviously. I like it but I’m not in total love with it. It feels too heavy on my face. The eyes I love, along with fake lashes, definitely doing those for the wedding.
