Where I m located, its very overpriced and being charged around $1,400 to get makeup done for myself and bridal party. Should I just have it done professionally done for just myself or should I just do my own makeup?? I am located Frederick, MD.

Oh wow that's very pricey indeed! I'd either look for other vendors or just have your makeup done and make it optional for bridesmaids Smiley smile

I initially booked someone to do my makeup, but due to covid I ended up doing my own. I was really nervous about how the pictures would turn out, but our photos are amazing! I don’t usually wear a ton of makeup, and having it professionally done would’ve put me in more than I usually wear. I really love our pictures even more because it’s truly me shining through, and I am proud that I did my own makeup. I think you can’t go wrong either way. That’s personally more money than I’d want to spend, you can consider just paying for yourself and offering your bridesmaids the option to pay for themselves if they want. If you are considering doing your own makeup, maybe try doing it yourself for an engagement shoot and see how the photos look. I think if you have a good photographer the pictures should be amazing either way!

I think that price sounds reasonable, I’m in CA and all the quotes I’ve been getting for myself + 4 others are $****

My experience was similar. Even the trial was too much money. Nevertheless, I did one trial, but didn't look like myself at the end of it. Since I normally don't wear much, if any, makeup I was hesitant not to use a professional, but the cost for another trial and day-of makeup, was prohibitive. But, I didn't want to look washed out in the photos. So, in addition to the pro trial, I went on a couple of consultations at Sephora (different stores), took some notes on techniques and colors, and did it myself. The consultations provided enough of a lesson, and I got professional advice on foundation and blush colors good for me, as well as the tip about using a primer. After a couple of experiments prior to the day, I felt confident enough to do my own makeup. I was very happy with the result, using a primer, foundation, concealer, blush and mascara. And since the wedding, I've used the makeup for church, dinners, occasions etc.

Do it yourself, but practice practice practice with it being on where you'll be having the wedding, the lighting and in photos. Makeup picks up differently on camera vs in real life

Hi fellow Marylander! I'm from Baltimore and getting married on Kent Island in the fall so I'm just starting to figure out what I'm doing for hair and makeup. I'll definitely be getting mine done but I'll make it optional for my bridal party. It's definitely not the norm for the bride to pay for the bridesmaid's hair and makeup unless you are requiring them to get it done. So do not feel obligated to do that as long as it's optional for them. I see that the $1400 is for you and six girls, so I'm guessing it's $200pp/ $100 for hair, $100 for makeup? That's definitely up there but... welcome to Maryland lol. For reference, I've paid as little as $50 for hair (in Pittsburgh) and as much as $85-100 (in Baltimore). Like others have said, I'd be up front about the cost per person and let your girls know it's completely optional.

For myself and my party, including mom's total of 10 people the total is $1300. But I am only paying for my makeup. I asked the bridesmaids if they wanted it done, but said I couldn't pay for it. I made is 100% optional. They were all okay with the price.

Is this $1400 for just makeup, or for both hair and makeup?

I was wondering because that would be a steal for both hair and makeup, but for makeup alone that seems way overpriced!
