Makeup/hair on-site vs at salon?

Kari, on November 19, 2019 at 2:43 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 6

Our wedding is 6 months out so I'm looking into bridal hair and makeup (which is so far the bane of my wedding planning) and understandably most stylists require a minimum number of clients to travel. I'm having just a MOH and no other bridesmaids, and my MOH is very adept at doing her own hair and makeup and was planning to do hers on her own for the wedding. Our venue is about 20-25 minutes from the town I live in (where all the salons are located), and it has an on-site AirBnB where we will be staying for the weekend.

I'm wondering if it is worth the extra expense to pay for my MOH and my mom to have their hair and makeup done, just so I can have my look completed on site, or if I should just save money by traveling to the salon. I like the idea of getting ready on site and having it be a very personal experience, but traveling to the salon isn't a huge hassle and would be much less expensive. I just don't know what my "getting ready" photos will look like if I'm "getting ready" off site.
Any strong thoughts on having a MUA/hair stylist come to you at your wedding venue vs going to the salon to have your look done?

My wedding was this past Saturday and I got my HAMU done at the salon that way we didn't risk the make up artists forgetting anything and all her supplies was in it's normal spot and she didn't have to hunt for a specific brush, she already knew exactly where it was

If you can afford it and it's in your wedding budget it would be a nice gift for the day of.

If it's in budget, I'd just pay for theirs to be done so you don't have the added stress of going to the salon.

If you can budget that then I say go for it. I did the same thing so I could have the MUA come to me. It was worth it.

I’m paying for someone to come to me. It’s just me -no wedding party- so it’s actually way more expensive this way but (due to the time we’re starting and the fact I could not find any makeup artists in the area with ample pictures of their work on black women) it’s fine.

I think it’s a nice treat; if you can afford it, I say spoil yourself (and your family/friends) a little.

Girl, those cutesy getting ready photos are staged! 😂 If you want to splurge and have them come to you, do it. Your HMUA and photographer will likely still stage the photo. If you want to go to the salon for hair and makeup then bring some hairspray and, say, a lip brush and have your Mom or MOH give you a spray and “touch up” your lips at the venue to get the typical getting ready photo. 😉
