Go for it but I will just suggest do it because you want to. Have you checked Azazzie as I have seen some beautiful wedding dresses under $300. Would you spend considerably less in material. Not knocking the idea but you do not need to spend thousands on a dress but if the style dress you want would be thousands and it would be cheaper to make it then go for it.

Im so excited to see what you create!! Believe me, I went through the same thing when trying to find a dress! The dresses I found with everything I want were upwards of $6000.

I ended up buying an inexpensive dress with the right silhouette on Etsy and modifying/ embellishing it to match my vision. If you find something that's almost there, it might give you a head start on your project.
Do you have inspiration pics? I would love to see your vision!!!

As someone who loves to sew and remade my mother's wedding dress so I could wear it 30+ years ago, I love this. However, as someone who watched her sister make her daughter's wedding gown 2-3 years ago, I will echo the pp who suggested you really think through the costs and time required to achieve your vision. My niece certainly choose a less than simple dress for her mother to make, but by the time she was done, my sister spent well over $1000 on fabric (and she didn't go looking for ridiculously expensive fabric, it just took a LOT of it) and I think she stopped counting after well over 300 hours (it involved a lot of hand sewing; thankfully, she's a teacher, but she didn't anticipate spending her entire summer break making the dress). Depending on what you're looking for, I agree to just make sure you've explored your other options (like Azazie or any of the resale sites) to be certain you can't find what you want at a reasonable price, but if it's truly a labor of love, then good luck! Smiley heart

PS -- I agree with others, I'd love to see photos of your vision, progress, and final project!

My mom made her own wedding dress and it is absolutely stunning! (And a million times better than the poofy weirdness of 80s dresses lol). I’m going to incorporate a couple of extra buttons from her dress into my bouquet. Best of luck - we’d all love to see pictures! 😊

Perhaps because I have NO sewing skills, but are you sure you can’t find a used wedding dress online then customize to your style? Good fabric is really expensive and a wedding dress style may be tougher than a regular dress.

I️ was going to make my dress too until I️ came across Azazie. They have amazing dresses that don’t break the bank and you can try before you buy. I️ found My dream dress. (Literally cried looking at a dress online🤷🏽‍♀️🤣😭) but I️ know it’s the one.

That's so exciting! I can't wait to follow your thread.

I will also be making my dress. Originally, it was due to budgeting, but now I love the idea of creating something unique--it makes it so much more special! Have you decided on a design yet?

Best of luck! Smiley heart My mom and her sisters all made each other's wedding dresses so I can't imagine upping the difficulty and doing your own. Fingers crossed you can finish it in the short timeline - do you have a back-up plan?
