Making the wedding dress my own, dress regret

Alicia, on December 11, 2017 at 5:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I bought a dress. It was between 2 of my favorites. The one (dress 2) I didn't get had flocked polka dot tulle outer layer that made it have a vintage unique feel. The one I ended up buying (dress 1) feels like it is missing something unique. I thought about adding something to the belt area (brooch, special lace), but the belt that is on the dress is very beaded and incorporated. I tried adding a butterfly lace detail to see how that looks.

Does anyone have pictures of how they made their wedding dress their own? Or suggestions for how I can change my dress?

I also am having a fall wedding, so am looking for cover-ups if anyone has suggestions.

How experienced are you in sewing dresses, especially intricate formal dresses?

So, you purchased the dress in the top photo? I think it is gorgeous and looks super. I would leave well enough alone. If you want to personalize, do it with your fall cover-up or your jewelry.

My seamstress was able to make custom swag sleeves for my dress.

FH made the suggestion to add a corset and the seamstress suggested using a colored ribbon to tie it up. So my something extra is going to be my corset with a blue of some shade I've yet to pick ribbon to tie it up. I've also been looking at getting a sash that will be sown on in the same shade of blue i would use for the back.

I think the dress will be your "own" when it's altered. You can also do one of those lace overlays, a belt, jewelry, cover up/ bolero, funky shoes

Personally I think dress 2 is beautiful on you. Maybe a nice veil would make the look complete

I had my seamstress add sleeves to my dress! It made the dress feel more special and "mine" and I absolutely adored the results. You should ask your seamstress if they can change the neckline to a sweetheart since that was what the other gown had and it looks really good. I think that would be amazing! They could even add the scalloped lace like the 2nd dress.

Or, could you possibly call the dress store and ask to exchange the gown for the second dress?

Wow! Thanks for sharing your pic Smiley smile It looks awesome! I will have to see if a scalloped lace can be done for the neckline. It did look really nice in the dress I didn't get.

I liked dress 2. I am slightly disappointed that I didn't go with that one.

I got my dress back from alterations. My maid of honor, who I also use as a my style guide, told me just leave the dress as is because I was trying to do too much to change it. It came back from alterations and I am happy.
