'Manly' flowers for boutonnière

OriginalKD, on October 14, 2015 at 7:16 PM

My florist recommended ranunculus for the men to wear for their boutonnières. Looking at pictures (google) I don't think I like the way they look. Any 'manly' recommendations for floral choice for the guys bouts?

@CP I love your suggestion of using hops! I will run this by FH because he doesn't want a boutonniere but I think he would love this.

Our GM will have a single white rose with astilbe (pic 1), and FH specifically requested a bird a paradise flower (pic 2), which matches nothing else in the entire wedding, because he "wants to be different."

We are just going simple with roses to match the bouquets, but there are so many fun suggestions on this thread!

DH had a simple white rose. I didn't think it was unmanly. (Word??) the only pic I have of the guys with bouts on at the moment:

I was going to say Bacon or Pizza, but I know that's not helpful Smiley winking I think you two should bring up his concerns to the florist and see what they come up with. I'm sure they get that question once a week!!

H wore a Picasso mini calla lily with a little brunni berry. The rest of the guys wore a lisianthus bud , white stock bloom and brunni berries.

LOL.. we had a groom who thought he wanted two Billy Balls with a tight yellow, spray rose bud in the middle. We were laughing hysterically once it was put together because it looked like...well, exactly what you'd think it would look like. We sent a photo to the bride and said, "You don't want this, do you?" Of course she didn't.

DH was very opinionated about our flowers... he wanted rose boutonnieres. We did have the roses in bullet brass though. Smiley smile

This is the best picture of them I have at work; wish I had one that showed them better because they were really cool.

Our GM also wore succulents. DH also had a flower with his succulent, but I personally don't think the flower was really necessary.

I am having those in my bouquet, I picked them because they are soft and delicate looking. I would not call them a "manly" flower at all. You dont want to go with roses?

I personally like when the GM match the BM and the groom matches the bride. That's just my personal preference and around here at least it is very traditional. I am esp attached to the idea of the groom matching the bride. I like how it is one way for them to coordinate since it's not like their clothes often go together really. I think it's a nice touch and looks really good in pictures.
